JOB DESCRIPTION:
System Test & Commissioning Engineer
The System Test & Commissioning Engineer is responsible for the execution of internal brake system testing; static vehicle commissioning; dynamic vehicle commissioning; design and fabrication of brake system test racks; design and fabrication of special test equipment for KBC; field or local support to engineering for troubleshooting and failure investigation; management of system commissioning process milestones (SCR/SAR); fill-in support of department activities for all 3 business units (as needed).
Essential Functions
General responsibilities include:
- Specifying test cases for automatic/manual system testing and for static and dynamic commissioning.
- Static and dynamic commissioning of brake systems with highest priority on safety.
- Organizing and executing internal process milestone reviews (SCR/SAR).
- Field support to engineering troubleshooting and/or failure investigations.
- For internal brake system testing, responsibilities of the position may include preparation of test specifications; design and documentation of the system test rack specification; creation of interface test software; execution of system test procedure; and completion of system test report.
- For vehicle commissioning, responsibilities of the position may include creation of commissioning test procedures; execution of static and dynamic commissioning events; failure investigations, tracking and reporting; creation of trip reports; creation of commissioning reports.
- For system test racks and special test equipment, responsibilities of the position may include overall design and fabrication of the test equipment; design and fabrication of data acquisition/control hardware and software; allocation of materials needed for construction; documentation of design; development of relevant test procedures; internal or external training; operation of the equipment.
- Creation of test specifications and test plans for system test and commissioning of brake system
- Provide commissioning training for customers to ensure correct commissioning of KBC brake systems
- SW and system testing of application software on test benches and/or on-site on trains.
- For field or local support to engineering for troubleshooting and failure investigation, responsibilities of the position may include communication with involved parties; coordination of on-site or local testing activities; acquiring requisite material; supporting and/or executing the test; producing or providing input to test report.
- For fill-in support of department activities for all 3 business units, responsibilities may include execution of test procedures and creation and/or support of training aids or BTE’s. This responsibility is meant to convey the occasional necessity to assist with the workload of the Test Engineers and may be assigned on a case-by-case basis.
- Mostly domestic (some International) travel is required with durations typical trips being 1- sometimes 2 weeks at a time. Travel is expected to be 20% or less.
Technical Competencies
- Broad experience and good theoretical knowledge of engineering principles
- Knowledge and practical understanding of qualification and system testing
Software Experience:
- Should understand capabilities of microprocessor-based systems
- LabVIEW experience preferred
Industry Experience:
- Knowledge and practical understanding of brake or similar equipment
- Hands-on experience with electro-mechanical systems
- Knowledge and practical understanding of pneumatic/hydraulic principals and equipment

Education and Experience
Bachelor Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineer required.
For Engineer, System Test and Commissioning:
• ME or EE and 3 years of experience preferred.
For Engineer, System Test and Commissioning Sr.:
• ME or EE and 8+ years of industry experience preferred.
• Mastery of 'Essential Functions', Technical, and Core Competencies.
The base pay range for this role is $77,280 to $115,920 USD. The company reasonably expects to pay within that range, however, Knorr Brake Company considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
