The Proposal Specialist supports Manager Bids & Proposals in the planning and coordinating activities of proposals to ensure that the proposals are completed accurately and on time.


Essential Functions

Assures the timely costing and submission of quotes to assigned:

  • Customers for all spare parts.
  • Regional Manager for the overhaul parts IFB’s/RFP’s/RFQ’s.
  • Inter-company customers.

Supports the Proposal Manager:

  • Summary level reporting of all bids and proposals, including win/loss analysis, throughput of proposals, processing time of bids and other data as required to monitor and improve performance.
  • Provide necessary information for updating and monitoring status of proposal with the X-System and key milestone progression throughout tender process.
  • Incorporation and cost consolidation of multiple KB products for inclusion on strategic projects.  
  • In the facilitating of strategic decision making for expanding market share & market presence of all KB Product Lines. 
  • Supports reviews and negotiations with Legal and bid management team as required.  
  • Supports the negotiation of price, terms and conditions with customer, providing re-pricing scenarios and coordinating proposal revisions as required by the Regional Manager.
  • Provides input on pricing based on relevant customer history and current pricing information.


Skills and Competencies

  • Process oriented, with creative writing and proposal skills.   
  • Must be proficient in computer spreadsheets (Excel), word processing, scheduling and presentation software and reading drawings.  
  • Business Experience:  Must have good business sense to estimate costs, make good business decisions, risk assessments. 
  • Demonstrated leadership in project environment
  • Industry Experience:  Knowledge and practical understanding of brake or similar equipment.
  • Process Orientation:  Must understand and practice good organization and configuration management skills.
  • Ability to develop relationships with customers over a period of time is of critical importance.  The relationship to include contact with higher level customers and the position requires the ability to comfortably converse and represent Knorr’s products.
  • Technical aptitude: Exposure to and understanding of general engineering, manufacturing, and support of custom designed and fabricated equipment.
  • Must be able to act independently, implement directions effectively and without direct monitoring and supervision.  



The Proposal Specialist has access to financial reports and other sensitive information where the utmost integrity is required to safeguard Knorr’s competitive position.  A high degree of mental and visual alertness is necessary to complete a broad range of non-routine work with confidential data, including business plans, operating budgets, income statements and customer information. Customer requests for proposals usually demand challenging deadlines, which can create periods of excess workload causing increased stress.
