JOB DESCRIPTION:

Project Manager  - Work location is New York City

 

The Project Manager has full responsibility for the successful technical and commercial execution of the project, leads the full project activity of Knorr-Bremse companies involved in the project across the group and is the primary customer point of contact.  Responsible for day-to-day project tasking and meeting project customer requirements, cost goals, and schedule.   Manages the Design/Build project and prepares for the transition into the long-term Maintenance Contract.  Project size >$40M. 

 

The Platform Screen Doors (PSD) Project Manager is responsible for assuring the complete performance of the KBC scope of work on the Design Build phase of the PSD project and for assuring the seamless transition into the Maintenance phase.  The Project Manager will have full responsibility for the execution of the Maintenance Contract once the Design Build phase is complete.  KBC scope of work includes supporting the overall system level integration activity with the installation contractor for the New York City Transit (NYCT) Platform Screen Door Project in which the Project Manager shall work with the Knorr-Bremse Platform Screen Door Center of Competence in Melksham, England to meet project schedule and assure the smooth execution of a technology transfer for procurement and production in the USA.

 

The Project Manager shall assure effective liaison between KBC’s international project team for the PSD Design to support and resolve technical and commercial issues with the installation contractor during the Design/Build phase as they arise during the design, installation, and commissioning of PSD at each location, and then directly with NYCT during the maintenance and aftermarket support activities phase.   

 

Throughout the Design/Build phase of the project, the Project Manager will ensure that the planning of activities is carried out by KBC to support the PSD system and the ancillary sub-systems and equipment including the planning of tools and equipment, spare parts material requirements and maintenance schedules to be deployed in the Maintenance phase of the project.

 

The Project Manager must be highly adaptable to quickly adjust to changes in requirements, schedules, technical needs, and other aspects of the project to ensure that work moves forward successfully.  The Project Manager possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and be confident and professional in preparing and delivering technical and commercial presentational material.

 

The Project Manager is responsible and accountable for the financial result of the project and will establish, with the finance organization, a project cost structure, budget allocation and headcount allocations to execute the project at the planned cost and level of profitability.

The PSD Project Manager shall be based in the New York City area to provide a localized support to both the Design Builder and NYCT during the life of the project.  The Project Manager will initially have a Project Engineer as their direct report but as the schedule progresses, the project team and project structure will grow to encompass a group of over 25 engineering, professional and site technician staff across 3 sites in the New York City area.

 

Essential functions:

  • Utilizes and follows standard project scheduling and planning tools per KBC REX Procedures.
  • Maintains project plans regularly and provides reports to the Project Executive and to the Project Steering Group.  
  • Develops high-level plans to meet both project and product cost targets.  
  • Directs the process and steps in the technology transfer and local production set up in the USA.
  • Leads project meetings and design reviews, and tracks progress of day to day commitments. 
  • Co-ordinates the project execution strategy with other KB entities involved in the project.
  • Monitors project progress vs. staffing plan and resolves any resource constraints.
  • Ensures that problems and issues are dealt with in a structured manner, using accepted problem solving and root cause analysis.
  • Monitors project progress and ensures appropriate corrective actions are taken, when necessary to maintain project commitments and schedule.
  • Manages the construction phase of the project and prepares for the maintenance phase to assure a seamless transition.
  • Manages the project's risks and opportunities; tracks progress and provides reports to supervisor/manager.
  • Oversees and validates the accuracy of cost inputs and project financial reports.
  • Responsible for execution of customer management strategy - works closely with customer personnel on project status, including technical and schedule issues, and pricing.
  • Aids in the development of new business by providing support for proposals and actively seeks out change order opportunities to  increase value to the project and the client.
  • Complies with, and supports, company policies and programs regarding safety, security, ISO, EEO, OSHA and the Code of Ethics and business conduct.
  • Resolves or escalates issues in a timely manner; often involves manager and project team.

 

Technical Competencies:

  • Prior experience in and engineering or project management activity in the passenger rail industry.

Bachelors degree and/or significant relevant experience
8+ years of experience

 

The base pay range for this role is $160,000-240,000.

The company reasonably expects to pay within that range, however Knorr Brake Company considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
