JOB DESCRIPTION:

Project Engineer - work location is New York City

 

The Platform Screen Doors (PSD) Project Engineer is responsible for overseeing the overall system level integration activity with the installation contractor for the New York City Transit (NYCT) Platform Screen Door Project and is a critical team member in ensuring the success of this highly visible project.   Specifically, the Project Engineer shall work with the design and engineering teams at the Platform Screen Door Center of Competence in Melksham, England to gain sufficient knowledge and understanding of the NYCT PSD System both mechanically and electrically, initially for the construction project, and later, as it transitions into a long-term maintenance project.  The products and services involved with this project are highly technical and require an Engineer with both a strong system integration background and a degree in either Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with significant design and practical field experience in automated infrastructure products projects, preferably with the New York City MTA or similar public agencies.

The Project Engineer shall be the first line of technical liaison between KBC’s international project team for the PSD Design to support and resolve technical questions with the Design /Build contractor as they arise during the design, installation, and commissioning of PSD’s at each location, and then directly with NYCT during the maintenance and aftermarket support activities phase.   

 

As well as supporting the technical liaison on the PSD equipment, the Project Engineer will be required to define applicable standards and practices of the North American market to design engineers in the UK and to ensure that the submitted designs comply with the contract and define products that can be procured, manufactured and maintained in the USA.  The Project Engineer will also be instrumental in the support of the Technology Transfer from the UK to the USA to enable efficient and timely production of equipment is achieved.

 

Throughout the Design/Build phase of the project, the Project Engineer will evaluate the design of the PSD system and the ancillary sub-systems and equipment to support the planning of tools and equipment, spare parts material requirements and maintenance schedules to be deployed in the Maintenance phase of the project. 

 

The Project Engineer must be highly adaptable to quickly adjust to changes in requirements, schedules, technical needs, and other aspects of the project to ensure the project moves forward successfully.  The Project Engineer must possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and be confident and professional in preparing and delivering technical presentational material.

 

The PSD Project Engineer shall be based in the New York City area to provide a localized support to both the Design Builder and NYCT during the life of the project. 

The Project Engineer will report directly to the Project Manager.
 
Essential Functions:

  • Act as North American Product Expert for the NYCT PSD Project  
  • Lead customer technical communications and troubleshooting for the NYCT PSD Project  
  • Prepare technical documentation and presentations
  • Monitor/ensure specification compliance and create waivers when required
  • Provide engineering task schedule input to project management
  • Check and verify the documentation created by Melksham Engineering team before it is sent to the customer
  • Provide project technical updates to KBC Senior Staff and Department Managers regarding technical project progress
  • Must be able to travel on short notice (typically travel should be 20% or less but may become frequent at specific times through the project).  Occasional international travel will be required to the PSD center in Melksham, England

 
Technical Expertise:

  • Broad experience and strong theoretical knowledge of mechanical, electrical and control systems engineering principals
  • Past engineering experience in the rail industry
  • Past experience on major New York MTA development projects would be an advantage
  • Ability to quickly and accurately troubleshoot technical problems

Bachelors degree: Systems or Mechanical Engineering
8-10 years of previous experience
 

 

The base pay range for this role is  $111,936 - $167,904. The company reasonably expects to pay within that range, however, Knorr Brake Company considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
