JOB DESCRIPTION:
Job Profile Summary
This leadership role involves managing a multidisciplinary engineering team, including software development, quality assurance, and electronics lab resources. Responsibilities include resource management, project planning, budgeting, and task execution using methodologies like the V-model for software development. The role requires cross-functional collaboration, proposal creation, customer management, and ensuring compliance with industry standards such as IEEE-1558, CMMI, and IEC 62443.
The position emphasizes technical expertise in embedded systems, software development lifecycles, and tools like Jira and SAP/PPM, with additional familiarity in programming languages (e.g., C/C++) and hardware design principles. This role is suited for experienced managers who excel in building teams, delivering technical projects, and adhering to safety and quality standards.
Essential Functions
Staff management:
- Interviewing and hiring candidates
- Performing staff performance reviews
- Management of Software development resources
- Management of Software quality assurance resources
- Management of electronics lab technician resources
- Administration, creation and enforcement of company policy and procedure and ensure adherence to all Knorr development processes.
- Communication of company directives, business status/successes/issues.
- Performing close collaboration with cross-functional teams (marketing, engineering, and suppliers)
- Providing training and coaching for performance improvement.
- Managing PTO time across resources to ensure accurate support for tasks and schedules.
- Management and supervision of employees including training, coaching, mentoring, and evaluation.
- Project task management
- Scheduling, budgeting, planning and project management.
- Managing resource allocation
- Performing problem solving
- Reviewing and approving technical documents and engineering drawings
- Proposals
- Performing specification compliance reviews
- Reviewing and engineering System design for projects
- Creation of scope of supply for project proposals
- Estimations of tasks execution time for costing and scheduling
- Scheduling
- Utilize excel, MS project to schedule work across multiple resources, for example project timelines and team deliverables.
- Reschedule based on changing priorities.
- Customer management
- Meet with and manage internal and external customer communications, expectation setting, and issue resolution.
- Internal processes
- Design, review and approve internal process for the department.
- Ensuring departmental adherence to ISO9001, CMMI, IEEE-1558, IEC 62443 and other software and rail industry standards.
- Supporting internal and external audits on projects and internal and external standards required.
- Project task management
Required skills.
- Familiar with the following:
- Embedded system development
- Software Development Lifecycle
- Use of Standard Microsoft Office Suite for communication and documentation
- Understanding of safety related concepts for safety rated systems (SIL)
- Demonstrated team building and leadership skills.
- Preferred:
- Some Knowledge of rail transit vehicles
- Familiarity with:
- Jira for project tracking and reporting
- SAP/PPM
- Embedded C/C++; ETAS-Ascet, CODESYS, C#
- Some knowledge of electronics hardware and PCB design
- Required Experience:
- 5-7+ years of directly relevant engineering experience; 2 years management experience
- Hands on experience in V-model software development methodology
- Hands on experience in managing and leading software product development teams
- Education:
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or related Software System Management field required.
- Preferred:
- 8+ years of directly relevant engineering experience and 3+ years management experience
- Education: Master of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related Software System Management field.
