Position Summary

The Technical Illustrator is responsible for supporting technical manual and training material development with high-quality illustrations, figures, and drawings. The technical illustrator must use all tools at his disposal to develop illustrations that are specification compliant and satisfy the requirements of the customer.

Essential Functions 

  • The primary objectives of this position are to develop technical illustrations using a variety of source material including but not limited to the following:

    • Engineering Drawings

    • Existing illustrations of similar equipment

    • Technical data from vendors

    • Actual examples of equipment

    • Pro-Engineer models of equipment

  • Additionally, the illustrator must be able to interface with the appropriate personnel within engineering and operations to obtain information to support illustration development. 

  • Utilize IsoDraw to develop isometric exploded views

  • Utilize Pro-Engineer models to develop isometric exploded views

  • Interface with technical writers and trainers to determine requirements.

  • Utilize other graphics package (Adobe Illustrator, Visio, etc.) to develop technical illustrations

  • Interface with engineers to support illustration development

  • Interface with operations personnel to support illustration development


 Required Skills

Technical Illustrating Principles: Broad experience and knowledge of fundamentals of technical illustrating including the following:

  • Defining characteristics of isometric projections

  • Drawing techniques to support manual development

  • File format compatibility between graphics applications


  • Should understand and be able to efficiently utilize the Microsoft Windows operating system and be able to use the following Windows-based applications:

  • Creo – must be able to convert Pro-E models to isometric projections and isometric exploded views,

  • IsoDraw, Adobe Illustrator and MS Word

  • Must be able to work between multiple applications to produce professional quality illustrations.



1-2+ years of directly relevant experience



Associates in Graphic Design required

Bachelor’s in graphic design preferred
