JOB DESCRIPTION:

This position is responsible for assisting in designing new products and implementing engineering change notices. The designer will work with Engineers and Documentation Control to complete and release 3-D models and drawings. An education in basic drafting standards, procedures, and software including Pro/Engineer, Creo, Windchill, and AutoCAD is necessary for this position.  

 

Essential Functions:

1. Support engineering design of components and assemblies for mass transit applications
2. Create 3-D models, drawings, and release documentation for components, assemblies, modules, and other safety devices
3. Development of manufacturing drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams in accordance with applicable standards
4. Generate cost reduction ideas, sketches/drawings and feasibility investigations
5. Perform tolerance stack-up studies and check layouts
6. PDM database entry & Incorporation of Engineering Changes (ECN) to drawings
7. Perform product changes and other duties and responsibilities as assigned
8. Coordinate work with engineers, other designers, technicians, manufacturing, suppliers and customers in the support of existing products
9. Support the development of new products

 

Competencies:

1. Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling, CAD assembly, and CAD drawing creation tools 
2. Ability to work in a team environment
3. Knowledgeable in GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
4. Stack Up Analysis experience to ensure proper assembly and performance repeatability.
5. Knowledgeable in CAD & Design standards / procedures / CAD data translations
6. Knowledgeable in PDM (Product Data Management) and engineering document control / release processes.
7. Design experience and familiarity with general manufacturing principals; sheet metal design, machining, and material selection. 

8. Self-starter with a strong sense of urgency, creativity, and confidence to achieve quality results quickly and on schedule
9. Strong written and verbal communication skills
10. Detail oriented and organized
11. PC skills (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required)
