Position Summary

The RS (RailServices) Deputy Director is responsible for strategic and tactical support of the Aftermarket marketing strategy and sales of Knorr’s products and systems.  The RS Deputy Director plays a key role in the growth of the overall RailServices business.  This role has a primary focus in the development of the RailServices business in Maintenance and Modernization activities. We are seeking a leader to work with public authorities and rail car builders. This position directly affects the company’s success and is a driving force in shaping the company’s long-term goals.  This position directly leads team members towards meeting and/or exceeding the company’s goals and objectives.


Essential Functions


Actively develops new opportunities for RailServices with the focus on Maintenance and Modernizatio

For example: executing the RailServices maintenance and modernization business strategy, developing and presenting new maintenance and modernization concepts to customer, implementing pre-defined group modernization concepts, analyzing the market for maintenance and modernization, support development of new RailServices products and services, introduce new RailServices Product into the market, proactively select targets from rolling stock base for promotion of maintenance and modernization concepts, intensive customer lobbying for maintenance and modernization business, support the development of new business models and concepts


Closely cooperate with RailServices Sales and other Departments in Business Development for Maintenance and Modernization

For example: joint customer visits with RailServices Sales staff, preparing and holding customer presentations on maintenance and modernization concepts, coordinate and support technical proposal development for maintenance and modernization opportunities, support Sales staff in concept development and proposal preparation, support business case development and calculations, consultancy support for sales department.


Gather and provide market and customer information with focus on maintenance and modernization to support the RailServices Strategy execution

For example: identify customer needs and requirements, detect market trends and development for maintenance and modernization, identify competitor activities in maintenance and modernization markets, monitor competitor products in market, identify customer modernization plans, market analysis for maintenance and modernization, identify needs for product or service innovations, provide monthly market and business development activity reports


Building and extending customer network

For example: frequent visits to customer, support the organization and execution of rail industry events (APTA and other conferences), representing KB RailServices, managing, representing RailServices at rail industry events and Conferences. Must be familiar with, and ensure compliance to, relevant quality, product safety, HSE rules and regulations.


Travel is primarily during the business day, with both local and some out-of-area visits required and some overnight travel may be expected.

Required Experience

Experience in a relevant rail product engineering environment or technical sales capacity is essential.  The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of increasing experience and responsibility with management experience, ideally gained with either a rail system supplier or rail car manufacturer or from a passenger rail operating environment.


Preferred Education and Experience
An engineering degree in either mechanical or electrical engineering is preferred.


Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Supervisory experience of technical and sales staff is desirable.
