JOB DESCRIPTION:

We are seeking an experienced  Commodity Manager for Components to develop and manage the commodity strategy to achieve best cost, quality, delivery, and features/technologies from a global supply base. This role is an in-office hybrid position in Westminster, MD. In addition to the Components responsibility the incumbent will support the integration of Commodity Management into the Transit Rail business based in Westminster by engaging key internal customers and facilitating discussions with Commodity Managers in other locations to secure their involvement.   

 

Essential Functions

  •  Liaison between suppliers, manufacturers, relevant internal departments, and clients for Components Commodity for all sourcing projects, requirements, and overall procurement activity in a project-based business environment.
  • Responsible procurement contact for Components Commodity for new project sourcing development up to and including supplier award for key project deliverables. Actively manage early price negotiations, Schedule Agreement consideration, and other aspects of sourcing and contract management for project implementation.
  • Participate in active customer bid proposals to review and determine procurement decisions related to Buy America/Buy American/Local Content requirements prior to submission and secure support from relevant Commodity Managers.
  • Participate early in design and development projects and secure support from relevant Commodity Managers to provide sourcing technical input and manufacturability feedback prior to bid submissions.
  • Participate in Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE) across all Transit Rail product lines and secure support from relevant Commodity Managers and suppliers to identify and prioritize cost reduction opportunities.
  • Solves a range of complex problems taking a new perspective on using existing solutions problems related to purchasing.
  • Analyzes purchasing trends and implements strategies based upon standard procedures and protocols.                   
  • Over time, develop a pool of preferred suppliers for the Components’ Commodity; develop the key suppliers to support North American Rail Purchasing requirements and remove suppliers who are unable to exceed our requirements.                         
  • Responsible for material cost and specific yearly goals for cost reductions through negotiations, resourcing and product redesign.                
  • Report to executive management the commodity strategy, performance, market tendencies and overall state of the commodity supply base.                         .                        
  • Management and record keeping for supplier NDA’s, unique supplier agreements and legal review of supplier documents if needed.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment
The employee will be required to perform duties on a computer terminal. The employee may be exposed to shop floor conditions, i.e., noise, heat, cold, dust/dirt etc.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain or relevant degree 

5+ Years of Relevant Experience
