JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Functions

- Read drawings and material specifications
- Monitor operations to ensure that they meet production standards
- Performs incoming and in-process acceptance testing for the steel back material, as identified in work instructions to ensure components and products meet specification requirements.
- Measure products with calipers, gauges, CMM or micrometers
- Measure, accept or reject finished brake shoes
- Initiate Nonconforming Material Reports for products and materials that fail to meet specifications
- Document inspection and test data
- Perform review of steel back material Certificate of Analysis for compliance to material specifications
- Provide measurement & testing support for internal and external quality issues.
- Clearly communicate well organized data and test results in a timely manner.
- To actively participate in product complaint investigation
- Participate in new product Introductions as required in the development process and ensure appropriate design transfer into Manufacturing.
- Must understand, support and adhere to all Quality, Product Safety, and Health/Safety/Environmental/Energy policies.
- Must understand and adhere to all relevant statutory or regulatory compliance obligations such as AAR M-1003
- Must understand, support and adhere to the Integrated Management System policies, procedures and instructions.
- Must understand and support relevant key performance indicators (KPIs), as defined in the goal tree.
Skills and Competencies
- Basic Math Skills
- Demonstrates proactive and analytical thinking.
- Has strong interpersonal and communication skills;
- Able to make independent decisions and follow written and verbal instructions
- Has some working knowledge of the various customer and industry quality system models such as ISO and AAR.
- Data collection and analysis skills
- Has practical knowledge of and ability to use statistical analysis methods and tools.
- Ability to work with others and build a positive climate and trusting relationships within teams.
- Knowledge and ability to operate various test equipment
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
The employee will be required to perform duties on a computer terminal. The employee will also be exposed to shop floor conditions, i.e. noise, heat, cold, dust/dirt etc.
Physical Demands
The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of an office work / test lab environment position.
Required Education and Experience
- High School Diploma / GED
- 1-2 Years of Relevant lab testing and/or inspection experience
Preferred Education and Experience
- Postsecondary certificate in metrology, industrial manufacturing or applied science preferred
- Industry related certifications are helpful

The anticipated wage scale for candidates who will work in West Chicago, IL is $22.00 to $25.00 per hour. The final pay offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and years of experience within the job, the type of years and experience within the industry and education. New York Air Brake is a multi-state employer, and this pay scale may not reflect positions that work in other states or locations. Provided they meet all eligibility requirements under the applicable plan documents, employees (and their eligible dependents) will be eligible to enroll in group healthcare plans that offer medical, dental, vision, and basic life and disability insurance. Employees also will be able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan. Employees will also receive 80 hours of vacation leave and 40 hours of Personal Paid Absence every year. Employees will also enjoy 12 paid holidays, and 1 floating holiday throughout the calendar year, subject to relevant terms outlined in the employee handbook. 6 weeks of paid parental leave will also be available for use. Requirements for these benefits will be controlled by applicable plan documents and policies. Employees working on federal contracts covered by the Federal Paid Sick Leave requirements will be notified and will receive benefits consistent and compliant with the FPSL requirements. Hired applicant will be able to purchase company stock, subject to the relevant plan documents and annual bonuses based on achievement of certain metrics.
