JOB DESCRIPTION:
Applications Engineer
This highly visible position will oversee many areas of the operations involving the brake shoe testing procedures and processes, updating drawings using CREO, reviewing incoming requests/drawings to determine the viability of the project and other duties as necessary.
Essential Functions

- Gather customer requirements for the design of rail brake shoes
- Prepare technical proposals including clause-by-clause comments to customer spec
- Prepare documentation including requirement specs, schematics, etc.
- Define and perform necessary tests for customer approval of brake shoes
- Create appropriate laboratory tests to gain customer approval of brake shoes
- Assist sales and field service engineering staff
- Maintain benchmarking program
- Perform system-level Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA)
- Develop Verification and Validation Test Procedure
- Make technical presentations to customers in support of sales
- Create project schedules and budgets; lead sales/application projects
- Design & develop new brake shoe configurations
- Must understand and support all Quality, Product Safety, and Health/Safety/Environmental/Energy policies.
- Must understand and adhere to all relevant statutory or regulatory compliance obligations.
- Must understand, support and adhere to the Integrated Management System policies, procedures and instructions.
- Must understand and support relevant key performance indicators (KPIs), as defined in the goal tree.
- Responsible for scheduling building maintenance with vendors.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Solid understanding of rail braking operation and design
- Requirements analysis, allocation and traceability

- Imperial and metric unit measures

- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics
- Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project
- Working knowledge of NYAB/Anchor Engineering Systems and Procedures
- FMECA analysis

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
The employee will be required to perform duties on a computer terminal. The employee may be exposed to shop floor conditions, i.e. noise, heat, cold, dust/dirt etc.

The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of an office work environment position.
Required Education and Experience
- High school diploma/GED required. An Associate's Degree is highly desirable, preferably in a mechanical-related field of study.
- 10+ Years of directly Relevant Experience required in lieu of an Associate's degree or higher.
