JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring that Knorr-Bremse products and manufacturing processes meet internal and external quality standards. This role includes the development and application of PFMEA, control Plans, FAI's, audits, testing and inspection activities, root cause analysis, and the implementation of corrective and preventative actions.

  • Review and approval of Engineering drawings for implementation
  • Responsibility for medium complexity Assembly Cells (PQE).
  • Understands Product / KPI performance, calculation, and reporting.
  • Participates in New Product Launch activities to ensure the effective transfer of the Engineering intent, as shown in supporting engineering documents, is realized in supplier and internal processes at the required high level of quality.
  • Use advanced quality statistical / 6 Sigma tools (Six Sigma, SPC, DOE) for defining root causes and implementing effective fact-based corrective actions.
  • Evaluation of independent test results and reports, including Engineering test plans, test reports, and third-party material and failure analysis reports.
  • Perform customer visits as required.
  • Lead in non-conforming material review, MRB, on-hold material, and Containment of defects, and lead or manage corrective actions.
  • Drive Failure Mode and Effects Analysis activities for both Process and Design FMEAs.
  • Develop effective quality control and associated risk management plans.
  • Conducts routine audits and/or surveys to determine the acceptability of quality controls.
  • Monitors experimental / pilot product runs.
  • Lead / complete capability and gage R&R studies as directed.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and healthy environment and ensure compliance with the company's rules and policies.
  • Must be able to comply with quality, product safety, and HSE rules, guidelines, and regulations.  Be energy conscious, if applicable.
  • Must understand and comply with applicable standards. ( i.e., ISO 9001, ISO 22163, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001, AAR, and CMMI).
  • Maintain and safeguard business records.      

  

Competencies:  Technical

  • Must possess knowledge and practical understanding of electromechanical equipment and principles.
    Must possess the ability to understand engineering drawings, diagrams and schematics.
    Has the ability to develop and implement Quality standards.
  • Effectively use company-provided IT tools such as SAP, Eigner/Cadim, Excel, PowerPoint, Minitab in the performance of Quality Engineering, and the reporting to management of Product / KPI Performance.
  • Understands KPS or lean behaviors and able to apply these to processes.
  • Experienced with APQP and relevant Quality control tools and processes, including knowledge of or education in Quality Engineering, design control, and verification and validation tools and methodologies.
  • Independently analyze and trend data, formulate and implement corrective actions to improve products, processes, and systems.
  • Experienced in Advanced Math, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Minitab.
  • Capable of scheduling, planning, and program management.
  • Understands PFMEA (Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis). 
  • Has advanced problem-solving skills. 
  • Experienced in Metallurgy/Materials Testing and inspection/measuring machines and tools  CMM, micrometers, calipers, gauges). 
    .

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's Degree in any of the following: Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering

3-5+ years of relevant experience

The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in Watertown is $75,900 to $113,900 per year. The final pay offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and years of experience within the job, the type of years and experience within the industry and education. New York Air Brake is a multi-state employer, and this pay scale may not reflect positions that work in other states or locations. Provided they meet all eligibility requirements under the applicable plan documents, employees (and their eligible dependents) will be eligible to enroll in group healthcare plans that offer medical, dental, vision, and basic life and disability insurance. Employees also will be able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan. Employees will also receive 120 hours of vacation leave and 40 hours of Personal Paid Absence every year. Employees will also enjoy 12 paid holidays, and 1 floating holiday throughout the calendar year, subject to relevant terms outlined in the employee handbook. 6 weeks of paid parental leave will also be available for use. Requirements for these benefits will be controlled by applicable plan documents and policies.
