The Commodity Manager may be responsiblle for one or more of the following commodities:  Castings, Electronics, Forgings, Machined Parts, Fabrications, Plastics, Rubber and Standard Commodities.The preferred candidate will have experience in Plastics, Rubber and Standard commodities either from an engineering perspecirve or purchasing.


Essential Functions

  • Solves a range of complex problems taking a new perspective on using existing solutions problems related to purchasing.
  • Utilization of strong technical/engineering background to develop solution-based outcomes that drive improvement projects such as VA/VE, technical development activities, new commodity technology options, and cost improvement projects.
  • Management of suppliers to develop documented understanding of technological advantages, capital equipment, and capacity to support commodity driven strategies.
  • Analyzes purchasing trends and implements strategies based upon standard procedures and protocols.                   
  • Develop and manage commodity strategy to achieve best cost, best quality, best delivery times and latest technologies from a global supply base.                                 
  • Develop a pool of preferred suppliers for each commodity; develop the key suppliers to support NYAB requirements and remove suppliers who are unable to exceed our requirements.                         
  • Resource production materials to the NYAB global supply base.                            
  • Manage the commodity specific cross functional team (including, but not limited to, SCRUM, engineering, quality, supply chain) to improve cost, quality, on-time delivery and latest technologies.
  • Responsible for material cost and specific yearly goals for cost reductions through negotiations, resourcing, and product redesign       
  • Utilization of strong technical/engineering background to develop solution-based outcomes that drive improvement projects such as VA/VE, new commodity technology options, and cost improvement projects.
  • Management of working capital through YOY supplier payment term improvements and 100% utilization of SEPP Program.                           
  • Report to executive management the commodity strategy, performance, market tendencies and overall state of the commodity supply base.                         
  • Support the Program Managers lead project for purchasing requirements.                        
  • Responsible for system cost data; SAP, MPI, TPI; support for finance in the yearly standard cost roll.                       
  • Management and record keeping for supplier NDA’s, unique supplier agreements and legal review of supplier documents if needed.                                   
  • Must understand and support all Quality, Product Safety, and Health/Safety/Environmental/Energy policies.
  • Must understand and adhere to all relevant statutory or regulatory compliance obligations.
  • Must understand, support and adhere to the Integrated Management System policies, procedures and instructions.
  • Must understand and support relevant key performance indicators (KPIs), as defined in the goal tree.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment
The employee will be required to perform duties on a computer terminal. The employee may be exposed to shop floor conditions, i.e. noise, heat, cold, dust/dirt etc.

The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of an office work environment position.


Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Engineering Management, and or Supply Chain

5+ Years of Relevant Experience


Preferred Education and Experience

APICS Certification2 or more years’ experience working with plastics & rubber commodity
