JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Buyer - Material Planner keeps procedural alignment with the general procurement guidelines and defined general contract agreements. Executes observation of relevant supplier markets and the respective accredited suppliers. Develops and maintains supplier contacts.  Negotiates general and/or case-related procurement contracts, incl. specifications, volumes, pricing, terms and conditions. May order assigned commodities, semi-products and/or services. Monitors, that quality, quantity and other agreed contract conditions for the goods provided will be met. Interacts with supplier to settle any questionable deliveries, in cooperation with other departments. Proposes measures and action plans to ensure supplier quality, if needed. May include the leadership of a group of Order Management or Procurement Support functions.

  • Develop and maintain the Material Requirements Plan (MRP) to ensure to meet the S&OP Production Schedule and customer orders (both purchased and manufactured materials).
  • Perform daily system maintenance including, but not limited to, executing placement of Purchase orders, reviewing and executing ZDPO messages, reporting production, scrap transactions, lot sizing and cycle counting of floor stock inventory.
  • Monitor/ Maintain Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI), Supplier pulls and Internal Kanban programs. Expedite suppliers as needed to insure parts availability.
  • Daily, direct communication with Suppliers for Purchase Order confirmation and delivery status, controlling logistics costs and inventory impact.
  • Work closely with the Supply Chain Specialist and Commodity Management Team to improve on time/and flexible deliveries from our suppliers
  • Maintain PP/MM Master Data settings to align with and balance KPI's including, Inventory Turn Rate, Customer Service, and Supplier Delivery goals.
  • Release work orders to the Production Requirements Scheduler to ensure material availability to meet customer deliveries
  • Communicate daily with Quality, Warehousing and Operations Teams on resolution and disposition of non-conforming materials
  • Participate in LDM Tier 1, 2 and 3 shop floor activities associated with Materials Planning, purchasing and warehousing. Support and lead continuous improvement activities in pertinent areas.
  • Execute ECN notifications to the Supply Base and actively manage timely implementation of changes.
  • Collaborate and communicate with Inside Sales Personnel on Sales commitments for purchased materials and expediting to meet customer needs.

 

Skills and Competencies

  • Has a strong background in Material Requirements Planning.
  • Has strong working knowledge of SAP.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft office products.
  • Has working knowledge of lean principles.
  • Able to multitask and manage deadlines.
  • Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Has proven problem-solving ability.

 

 

Required Education and Experience

Associate Degree in Supply Chain, Materials Management, or Related Technical Field

2-5+ Years of Relevant Experience

 

Preferred Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree Preferred

APICS Certification Desired
