Cost Reduction Engineer

Contributes to value and cost optimization strategy and methods.  Analyses initial product cost structure analyses and product benchmarking. Calculates Value / Cost scenarios for different alternative production scenarios, to contribute to rational "Make-or-Buy" decisions in the development phase.  Designs and proposes cost reduction measures (design to cost, target costing, standardization, key data, etc.). Provides support for CoC projects to realize saving potential. Identifies company and industry-wide best practices. Facilitates cost optimization workshops with key suppliers. Assists with project-related cost and expense forecasting, rolling-up costs in MRP system, and determining sales pricing for optimal profit margins.

  • Review material & labor costs on current products
  • Review material costs increased when received and calculate business impact
  • Assist with costing on project-specific products
  • Must understand and support all Quality, Product Safety, and Health/Safety/Environmental/Energy policies.
  • Must understand and adhere to all relevant statutory or regulatory compliance obligations.
  • Must understand, support, and adhere to the Integrated Management System policies, procedures, and instructions.
  • Must understand and support relevant key performance indicators (KPIs), as defined in the goal tree.
  • Must be able to review product BOM’s for accuracy.


Skills and Competencies

  • Has SAP system knowledge.
  • Has experience with Microsoft Office – Excel & Word
  • Has working knowledge of lean principles.
  • Exhibits excellent leadership skills.
  • Experience in OEM equipment manufacturing/machining operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical & electrical drawings.



Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no direct reports


Work Environment
The employee will be required to perform duties on a computer terminal. The employee may be exposed to shop floor conditions, i.e., noise, heat, cold, dust/dirt etc.

Required Education and Experience

Associate Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Engineering

5 years’ experience with product costing/MRP systems

Lean Manufacturing, SAP, Product Costing
