JOB DESCRIPTION:

Dynamics Engineer

Reports to

Manager of Systems Engineering

Summary/Objective
The engineer filling this position will be responsible to collaborate as part of a team on the design, development, analysis and test of new software-based systems within the LEADER product family. 

Essential Functions

1. Provide maintenance support for existing products.
2. Develop requirements for the design of energy management/train control systems
3. Develop interface control documents
4. Prepare technical proposals including clause-by-clause comments to customer specifications.    
5. Prepare systems documentation including requirement specifications, schematics, etc.
6. Perform system integration                                        
7. Prepare system-level Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA)      
8. Assist with the development of verification and validation test procedures                         
9. Assist with preparation and delivery of technical presentations to customers in support of sales
10. Troubleshoot complex system problems and identify root cause / corrective actions         
11. Perform and participate in design reviews. 
12. Prepare detailed design documentation.
13. Adhere to all NYAB development processes.
14. Interface with other departments as necessary.   
15. Must understand and support all Quality, Product Safety, and Health/Safety/Environmental/Energy policies.
16. Must understand and adhere to all relevant statutory or regulatory compliance obligations.
17. Must understand, support and adhere to the Integrated Management System policies, procedures and instructions.
18. Must understand and support relevant key performance indicators (KPIs), as defined in the goal tree.

Skills and Competencies

1. Data Analysis experience using Excel, Matlab, Python, etc.
2. Basic understanding of Mechanical, Pneumatic, and Electrical Systems.
3. Experience with software-based control systems.
4. Problem solving skills.
5. Use of Standard Microsoft Office Suite for communication and documentation
6. Communication Skills - Comprises the ability to speak, present, write, listen and distribute information effectively and create an environment for open communication.
7. Analytical Thinking - Refers to collecting, analyzing and structuring information using a wide perspective in order to identify key issues and patterns as well as to drawing conclusions.
8. Teamwork - Means the ability to work with others and build a positive climate and trusting relationships within teams.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

The employee will be required to perform duties on a computer terminal. The employee may be exposed to shop floor conditions, i.e. noise, heat, cold, dust/dirt etc. 

Physical Demands

The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of an office work environment position.

Education and Experience
 

1. Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field of study required.
2. 2-5 Years of relevant engineering experience. highly preferred

Preferred Experience

1. 6+ years of directly relevant experience
2. Familiarity with the Software Development Lifecycle.
3. Familiarity/Experience with Control Topologies
4. Proficient use of Unix/Linux like environments.
5. Experience with C/C++ development.
6. Experience in Rail or transportation systems software development
7. Development for safety rated systems (SIL)
8. Scrum development methodologies
9. Development using System Modelling Tools (SysML, UML)
