JOB DESCRIPTION:

POSITION SUMMARY:                       

 

Provide world class quality engineering technical support to the manufacturing areas and product/new supplier launch activities related to supplied material to meet or exceed customer expectations. The Supplier Quality Engineer will champion supplier performance standards, procedures, and audit controls in order to meet business requirements, as well as identify and implement process improvements to increase the efficiency, effectiveness, and quality of company products and services.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

 

  • Ensures compliance with the company’s Quality Management System and accepted manufacturing practices.
  • Creates and maintains receiving inspection plans for supplied material.
  • Performs duties as first support help chain for receiving inspection hourly team product quality escalations.
  • Assigns and enforces 8D problem solving with suppliers as needed.
  • Leads efforts for supplier qualification at the plant level include measurement system correlations and PPAP package reviews.
  • Performs duties to capture supplier performance data, identify trends, and initiate improvements projects.
  • Responds to escalations from production and assembly teams for quality of supplied product.
  • Creates, maintains, and enforces QMS system as related to supplier quality program.
  • Leads SPS (Simple Problem Solving) teams in root cause analysis of specific projects and report out to high level staff at suppliers as required.
  • Continuously researches and implements “Best Practice” manufacturing/processing methods and processes regarding supplier quality for problem suppliers.
  • Establishes and maintains supplier quality metrics.
  • Executes supplier qualifications and critical improvement projects with the central Supplier Quality Development Team.
  • Develops PPAP paperwork and coordinate with RH-Sheppard Customer Quality Team to achieve customer PPAP acceptance.
  • Ensures compliance with the plant policies and procedures including requirements for IATF-16949 and ISO14001.
  • Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned by the department manager / supervisor.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

 

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technical/Industrial management required.
  • 3 years+ of Quality Engineering, Supplier Quality Engineering, or APQP product launch experience in a manufacturing facility required.
  • Demonstrated experience in motivating and leading people, driving a positive work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement Quality standards.
  • Knowledge of GD&T and reading blueprints.
  • Strong Written and Oral communications skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities at a time.
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing techniques with emphasis on Standardized Work, Continuous Improvement, 5S, and JIT principles.
  • Experienced with APQP and relevant Quality control tools and processes, including knowledge of or education in Quality Engineering, design control, and verification and validation tools and methodologies.
  • Independently analyze and trend data, formulate and implement corrective actions to improve products, processes, and systems.
  • Understands PFMEA (Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis).
  • Machining and/or Casting Processes experience is preferred.
  • Training and certification in APQP processes is desired.
