 Quality Engineer (Mid-Level, Senior)

Provide quality engineering technical support in a machining manufacturing setting. The Quality Engineer will support the Quality Department in establishing performance standards, procedures, and audit controls in order to meet business requirements, as well as identify and implement process improvements to increase the efficiency, effectiveness, and quality of company products and services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 

  1. Ensures compliance with the company’s Quality Management System and accepted manufacturing practices.
  2. Owner of Control Plan and associated inspection techniques/methods for designated area of responsibility.
  3. Understands and enforce Critical Characteristics/Special Characteristics in terms of: controlling the characteristic using appropriate tools to ensure capability and stability of the process and product.
  4. Identifies adverse quality trends utilizing data analysis, interaction with production team, and experience.
  5. Leads problem solving projects to solve production issues.
  6. Identifies and implements improvements with manufacturing teams that reduce product cost, improve quality, and maximize customer satisfaction.
  7. Leads or coordinates actions for Equipment Validation including Measurement system for new products/processes.
  8. Ensures that effective documentation and control systems are developed, utilized, and   maintained properly.
  9. Reviews and makes disposition on non-conforming materials.
  10. Assists with IATF-16949 and VDA Audits
  11. Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned by the department manager / supervisor.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Has the ability to develop and implement Quality standards.
  • Is proactive and strategic thinking.
  • Experience with APQP and relevant Quality control tools and processes, including knowledge of or education in Quality Engineering, design control, and verification and validation tools and methodologies.
  • Independently analyze and trend data, formulate and implement corrective actions to improve products, processes, and systems.
  • Understands PFMEA (Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis).
  • Working experience inspection/measuring tools (ex. micrometers, calipers, gauges).
  • Adaptability & Flexibility - Includes the ability to build networks, work successfully in various, complex, changing and challenging environments and with diverse people.
  • Communication Skills - Comprises the ability to speak, present, write, listen and distribute information effectively and create an environment for open communication.

 QUALIFICATIONS (Mid-Level): 

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Technical/Industrial management is required or similar field.
  • Requires at 3 years+ of Quality Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering experience.
  • Requires knowledge of Quality Management System Standards, preferably IATF16949
  • Working knowledge of problem-solving techniques using Six Sigma, DMAIC and 8D strategies.
  • General knowledge of GD&T and reading blueprints.
  • General ability to use statistical analysis to define actions and resolve issues.
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing techniques with emphasis on Standardized Work, Continuous Improvement, 5S, and JIT principles.
  • Machining Processes experience is preferred.
  • U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident status required.

 ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (Senior Level): 

  • 5+ Years of Quality Engineering/Management Experience in a manufacturing facility – preference to experience in machining.
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints, understanding datum structures, and interpretation of GD&T with the ability to provide guidance and training to others.
  • Proficiency in performing Statistical Process Control
  • Strong knowledge in Measurement System Analysis and Gauge R&R
  • Preferred: CMM Experience, Vision System Experience
  • Preferred: Problem Solving Certifications: Lean Six Sigma Green, Shainin RED-X

 

OTHER:

 

Supervisory Responsibility (Senior Level)
Technicians and Inspectors as determined through hiring process.

 

 

Work Environment
The employee will be required to perform duties on a computer terminal. The employee may be exposed to shop floor conditions, i.e. noise, heat, cold, dust/dirt etc. Work may involve reviewing, checking processes/gauges and instruments in a manufacturing environment including: machining, assembly, paint, heat treatment, grinding, core making, steel foundry.

 

 

 

Physical

May stand, bend, stretch up to 10 hours/day.

Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. as needed.
