This primary responsibility of this position is to assist manufacturing supervisors and managers by trouble-shooting and providing technical help in areas that are beyond their scope.  Assist with production needs and long term planning to ensure a smooth flow through production departments as required to affirm that effective production goals training and safety practices are maintained with the resources available.  The incumbent will practice continuous improvements by using but not limited to the tools of LEAN. Incumbent will work under minimal supervision.  


Responsibilities cited below are considered essential job functions:

  • Assist department supervisor with the training of new employees or those employees assigned to new positions, defining the cause of scrap, technical advice will be provided as needed
  • Troubleshoot tooling issues, initiate, conduct and complete tool test reports
  • Support in the maintenance of plant machinery to ensure that critical tolerances are met on projects; offer technical advice when new machinery is brought on line, as well as helping to solve problems
  • Ensure that all areas are in compliance with company safety standards; unsafe practices or areas are addressed and resolved immediately; proper reports and work orders must be filled out when they apply, as well as necessary follow-up until the situation is corrected
  • Maximize the amount of production time by maintaining the amount of lost time in plants
  • Establish priorities among departments serviced daily to avoid jeopardizing total plant operations and scheduled needs
  • Justify cost when requisitioning items for particular needs, questioning expenditures that seem out of line, and being prepared to answer any questions pertaining to that requisition
  • Participate in meetings pertaining to plant departmental needs or technical problems
  • Establish rapport with supervisors and managers on both shifts
  • Interface with manufacturing engineering regarding work orders, new processes, new machinery, tooling and fixtures throughout the plants

  • Knowledge of advanced machine shop practices, machine operations, and mechanics
  • Knowledge of advanced mechanical tools and measuring equipment, with troubleshooting technique
  • Ability to read and interpret technical information, books, and shop blue prints and drawings, advanced shop mathematics, geometry, etc., needed in machine tool design; knowledge of set-ups and tool life
  • PC, verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of machine-ability and how it affects production equipment
  • Ability to communicate with all managers, supervisors and production personnel
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with strong attention to detail

 

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:  General office, shop and machine tool noise, dirt, grease, heat and fumes from the operation of machine tools, machines and equipment infrequently.  Normal working position is sitting, standing and walking through out the plant, reaching with hands and arms, climbing stairs infrequently.  Occasionally will lift and or move up to 75 lbs during company visits.

EDUCATION & MINIMUM EXPERIENCE
One year in a manufacturing environment, interpreting and comprehending plans and/or blue prints and High School Diplom
