JOB DESCRIPTION:
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Materials Planner will coordinate the flow of material in-bound to the facility to ensure availability during scheduled production. This position will coordinate safety stock levels, supplier lead times, transit times and overall inventory levels within the plant. This position will assist in the creation of the master production schedule; plan and schedule workflow for each department and operation; and assist various departments in problem-solving and expediting issues.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Documentation of all material planning processes and procedures.
- Plans all purchased parts within area of responsibility.
- Assist in managing transportation logistics for all incoming components.
- Analyze inventory reports to identify slow moving items, overstocked items, and obsolete inventory.
- Schedule and implement part change notices while minimizing obsolescence.
- Review, update, and re-schedule supplier orders to maintain the current production schedule.
- Work with purchasing to communicate with suppliers on Material quality, on-time deliveries, and overall performance.
- Regular review of inventory parameters.
- Is responsible for acting on order releases action and exception messages from the system.
- Plans and manages production schedules to meet customer delivery requirements and best utilize the company's productive capacity.
- Is responsible for the analysis of sales order releases with respect to capacity planning and material requirements.
- Manages inventory levels, schedules, and availability of selected item, either manufactured or purchased, to meet production schedules.
- Reviews work in process material sweeps from production floor.
- Receives and reviews sales orders against current requirements and work in process using the Material Requirement Planning Report.
- Releases purchase orders for production material, floor stock items and all purchases to support the business unit.
- Interfaces with manufacturing personnel, the Purchasing Department and Supervisors on material status and production planning issues.
- Promotes teamwork and coordinates activities with other shifts to ensure continuous production activities.
- Uses interpersonal skills to address team member concerns and resolve issues.
- Enforces company policies and procedures.
- Monitors and maintains plant housekeeping and 5-S Standards.
- Develops and trains employees to all aspects of Standardized Work Instructions.
- Understands and adhere to current health, safety, and environmental policies (ISO14001). Is empowered to identify, stop, and communicate or escalate appropriate action regarding safety, health, and environmental concerns.
- Understands current quality policies and procedures (IATF 16949). Is empowered to identify, stop, and communicate or escalate appropriate action regarding product quality.
- Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field (or a minimum of 5 years materials planning experience) is required.
APICS Certification preferred.
SAP experience preferred.
Requires at least 2 years of working experience in a materials function for a manufacturing facility.
Proficient using Microsoft Office: (Word, Excel, and Powerpoint)
Must be able to effectively multi-task assignments.
Strong Interpersonal and problem-solving skills are required.
Conflict Management skills are required.
Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing techniques with emphasis on Standardized Work required.
Strong knowledge of Continuous Improvement, 5S, and JIT principles preferred.
Working knowledge of Quality Systems such as TS 16949 standards preferred.
