JOB DESCRIPTION:
Position Title: Engineer 2, Test (Wheel End Lab)
Reports To: Manager, Engineering - Friction Test

Position Summary:
This position will perform a full range of technical work on the Wheel End Laboratory including FMEA’s, DVP’s, writing new test procedures, sign-off test reports, draft laboratory management policies & procedures, test report templates, measurement uncertainty budgets and inter-laboratory correlation studies. This position also runs laboratory empirical investigations resolving component level root-cause analysis. A test Engineer on this position is responsible to support and run some technical activities. Has demonstrated knowledge in area of laboratory testing.
Essential Functions:
- Plans, conducts and coordinates a broad range of intermediate engineering technical assignments requiring an in-depth knowledge of foundation brake hardware and laboratory testing techniques.
- Responsible to support the DVP&R creation.
- Responsible for execution of all tests described on the DVP&R, accountable for evaluation of technical information and interpretation of test results.
- Analyze test data and write test reports to clearly document test results and conclusions.
- Regarded as a foundation brake hardware emerging technical expert in the area of laboratory test methods.
- Will be a support resource to other Bendix departments requiring test support.
- Act as technical support on laboratory activities of other test engineers or technician team members in execution of Test Requests.
- Responsible to introduce new tools related to testing and data processessing.
- Interface with and give presentations to internal and external customers.
- Position is non-supervisory.
Knowledge:
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills in a team environment. E.g. DFSS, 8D RCA
- DFMEA and DVP&R processes
- Able to write test procedures, test templates and test plans
- Knowledge of ISO17025
- Knowledge of air brake system. E.g. Air Disc Brakes, S-cam Brakes, Drum Brakes, Actuator, Air Chambers, Slack Adjusters.
- Knowledge running brake tests on inertia dynamometer
- Knowledge with calibration of laboratory equipment
- Fundamental Statistical capability
- Skilled in DOE (Design of Experiments) techniques
- Reliability Methods
- Process Improvements
- Knowledge, application, identification of C/C (Critical Characteristics), S/C (Special Characteristics), P/C (Pass Thru Characteristics)
Experience:
- 4 years minimum experience with foundation brake hardware testing within the automotive industry or commercial vehicle industry is required.
- Knowledge of ISO17025 is strongly preferred.
- Capability to work as a team member lead by the senior engineer will be highly regarded.
- Experience on laboratory process improvements is strongly preferred.
- 8D process experience and demonstrated implementation of PCA solutions will be highly regarded.
- Six Sigma experience is strongly preferred.

- Effective at communicating complex testing principles with a variety of audience including customers and suppliers
- Detail oriented and driven to complete Test Requests on time as per priority provided by internal and external customers
- Knowledge with Root Cause Analysis (RCA) skills
- Knowledge Test Report writing skills
- Intermediate problem-solving skills
- Intermediate analytical skills
- Intermediate understanding on calibration management
- Intermediate understanding on bench test tool/equipments such as inertia dynamometer, vibration, fatigue, instrumentation, strain gage measurements.

Education:
- B.S. in Engineering is required.
- B.S. Mechanical Engineering (BSME or BSMET) is preferred.
