LOCATION: Berlin / Germany | BRAND: HASSE & WREDE | REQUISITION ID: 9964 | ON-SITE/REMOTE: Hybrid

HASSE & WREDE has been part of the Knorr-Bremse Group since 1921. The renowned enterprise was founded in 1897 in Berlin by Carl Hasse and Julius Wrede. For more than forty years HASSE & WREDE has been the world market leader on the field of innovative damper design.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
THE CHALLENGE
Decarbonization and hybridisation are transforming drivetrains — and with them, entirely new vibration phenomena are emerging. Torsional dynamics in hybrid powertrains or methanol-fueled 2-stroke marine engines, and the need for intelligent, adaptive damping systems mean that the engineering rules written for conventional diesel drivetrains no longer fully apply. We need engineers who can rewrite them.
As part of the Knorr-Bremse Group — the global market leader in braking systems for commercial vehicles and rail — Hasse & Wrede is the world leader in the design and manufacture of torsional vibration dampers for drivetrains ranging from truck to industrial and marine applications. From our R&D headquarters in Berlin, our Base Technology & Innovation team shapes the next generation of safety-critical anti-vibration products.
We are looking for a
Senior R&D Engineer – Vibration Technology & Innovation (m/f/d)
to join our team and drive the future of vibration management in next-generation drivetrains.
YOUR IMPACT
- Own the full innovation lifecycle for next-generation smart vibration dampers — from physics-based modelling and concept design through IoT-enabled prototyping to validated series production, including complete system architecture and digital components
- Scout and evaluate emerging technologies through market analysis, customer and OEM dialogue, and participation in scientific conferences — and translate findings into a forward-looking product roadmap
- Define test strategies for components and complete products, and coordinate testing programmes with internal teams and external development partners
- Strengthen and expand our network within the scientific and engineering community, within the wider Knorr-Bremse organisation, and with universities and research institutions
- Present and discuss technology strategy with customers, OEM partners, and internal senior management
WHAT YOU BRING
- Degree (Master's or equivalent) in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, physics, or a closely related discipline
- 3+ years of hands-on R&D experience in vibration technology, NVH, structural dynamics, or related fundamental engineering mechanics / mechatronics
- Strong analytical and simulation skills (e.g. FEA, MATLAB/Simulink, multi-body dynamics)
- Ability to combine scientific rigour with an entrepreneurial, results-oriented mindset — from theoretical analysis to prototype testing
- Fluent English (our working language for international collaboration); German B2+ is strongly preferred — language support available for international candidates
- Occasional willingness to travel to customer sites, Knorr-Bremse locations, and conferences (approximately 10 %)
BONUS EXPERIENCE (nice-to-have)
- PhD or equivalent research-level track record (e.g. peer-reviewed publications, patents) in NVH, vibration analysis, mechatronics, or a related field
- Deep expertise in one or more of the following:
- Elastomer technology and material behaviour
- Pneumatics and hydraulics
- Internet of Things / smart sensor systems
- Sensors, actuators, and condition-monitoring systems
- Experience working at the intersection of mechanical engineering and digital/IoT product development
- Prior exposure to automotive or commercial-vehicle OEM development processes
WHAT WE OFFER
Through a blend of engineering excellence, sustainable development and social responsibility, our employees help to drive progress at more than 100 sites in 30 countries. We offer you an exciting role with plenty of variety in an international environment, as part of an attractive package that extends from flexible working hour models, via professional and personal development opportunities, all the way to sports and healthcare programs.
