JOB DESCRIPTION:

Position Title:              Supervisor, Engineering VDS

Reports To:                 Manager, Engineering – Test & Simulation

Position Summary:

 

This position is a working supervisory role, responsible to lead team of Systems Engineering experts supporting the Vehicle Dynamic Systems product lines. Establish team priorities based upon product development projects and customer requirements.  Responsible to ensure that product launches meet timing, cost, and quality, commitments. Additional responsibilities include supervision of system experts responsible for integration of vehicle dynamic systems including new feature development, requirements management, FMEA, Hazard Analysis, product specifications and service sheets.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Supervise team of Systems Engineers supporting critical product applications including Anti-Lock Braking (ABS), Vehicle Stability (ESP), Electronic Brake System (EBS) and advanced functions in development.
  • Collaborate with Bendix and KB ABS/EBS Application teams to enable new system functions and interfaces.
  • Interface with customers technical teams for ongoing support and successful new product introductions
  • Continuous collaboration with the Product Owners to understand PJ needs and distribute the capacities with this consideration.
  • Continuous collaboration with the Garage team to set up reliable plan for the common activities.
  • Continuously monitor competitive product offerings and complete competitor benchmarking and communicate product differentiation.
  • Conducts performance reviews to develop staff and assists in making engineering hiring decisions.
  • Assist in establishing priorities based on customers' needs and critical milestones.
  • Designs and implements policies and standards in System Engineering discipline.
  • Support System Engineering team in development and maintenance of system FMEA, DVP&R and system integration documentation.
  • Coordinates resources and priorities for Winter Test activities

 

Knowledge:

 

  • Experience with data acquisition systems (INCA, CANalyzer, CANApe, CANSAS, etc.)
  • Working understanding of control theory and vehicle dynamic, Minimum 3 years of in-vehicle experience applying modifying parameters for optimization of control. Experience running simulation to optimize vehicle performance a plus.
  • System Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA) using AIAG methodology.
  • Problem solving, root cause investigation, corrective action (e.g. 8D), design of experiments (DOE).
  • Conducts performance reviews to develop staff and assists in making engineering hiring decisions.
  • Assist in establishing priorities based on customers' needs and critical milestones.
  • Designs and implements policies and standards in System Engineering discipline.
  • Support System Engineering team in development and maintenance of system FMEA, DVP&R and system integration documentation.
  • Coordinates resources and priorities for testing activities, including extended work weeks at winter testing.

 

Experience:

 

  • Five or more years in commercial vehicle or automotive industry at Tier 2 or greater organization.
  • Two or more years in a matrixed organization
  • Two or more years of Project Management tools (Tollgate or similar)
  • Two or more years of team supervision with direct reports.
  • One or more completed Six Sigma projects as a Green Belt or greater.

 

Skills:

 

  • Ability to assimilate data quickly and drive engineering decisions.
  • Capable of prioritizing time/resources/goals and leading with sense of urgency.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and a positive/proactive work ethic.

 

Education:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required; advanced degree nice to have.
  • Additional certifications a plus, such as Six-Sigma Green Belt , GD&T Professional Certification, Professional Engineer.

 

Travel:

 

  • Estimated 25% travel, including supporting multi-week testing off site.
