JOB DESCRIPTION:

Position Summary:

 

The Project Manager is responsible for managing Product Development Commercialization (PDC) and specific facilities - related programs.  The role is responsible to ensure that all project and product launches meet deadlines, cost, and quality, commitments. Drive and direct cross-functional teams and coordinate multi-functional activities to meet milestones and deliver Programs on plan.  Coordinate and prepare required PDC and facility project phase review and deliver presentations to the Leadership Team.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Drive and direct cross-functional teams and coordinate multi-functional activities to meet milestones and deliver programs on plan, from project conception, execution, and closeout.
  • Coordinate and prepare required PDC and other project phase review and deliver presentations to Leadership Team.
  • Accountable for managing all risks of assigned projects, and resolution of critical issues during the entire the project(s)/program(s).
  • Assist in product management activities, designed to achieve long-term productivity and profitability of the product line.
  • Interface globally with KB functions including Engineering, Purchasing and Industrial Engineering.
  • Work with Director – Products, Dampers to interface with customers to determine requirements for a successful new product introduction and establish business case.
  • Work with Director – Products, Dampers to assist in establishing priorities based on customer’s needs and critical milestones.
  • Assist in a variety of product management activities, such as analysis of product obsolescence and product streamlining and related program management.
  • Working with the Director – Products, Dampers, develop the STRAP and MOP plans as well as help direct the efforts of the Product Business Team (PBT).
  • Develop & maintain action item lists, project plan, budget tracking, and meeting notes. Lead assigned projects through the PDC process including all PDC gate reviews with BLC or PBT.  Organize, manage, and drive to completion all relevant PDC and/or project deliverables.
  • Present periodic updates as required on project status including major tasks, budget, timeline and customer activity.
  • Establish and maintain a robust management system that provides clear communication of current project/program progress, status, risks/mitigation .
  • Travel as required.  Estimated at 30%.

 

Knowledge:

 

  • Knowledge in organizing, managing, and completing projects/product launches to measurable targets.
  • Knowledge with the design and manufacturing processes used to produce respective system components.
  • Knowledge and use of phase gate approach to operations and product development projects
  • Knowledge of theory of constraints, critical path, and risk assessment as related to management of projects
  • Knowledge of product launch and program management tools including Microsoft Project.
  • Understanding of major functional and cross-functional business processes and related metrics (Engineering, Operations, Financial, Marketing, and Sales), specifically as they relate to the product commercialization cycle.
  • Knowledge of Six-Sigma tools and processes.

 

Experience:

 

  • 3-5 years minimum business experience in industrial segment including manufacturing/ operations.
  • Experience in project management, program management and/or product development management required.
  • Experience and knowledge related to the automotive industry systems integration is a plus.
  • Heavy duty truck industry experience preferred.
  • Experience in leading at least one major facilities or product development program.

  • Strong project management skills including establishing milestones, project planning and implementation (execution skills) while meeting commitments; able to prioritize, schedule, and plan; anticipate obstacles and manage risks.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, Access, Microsoft Project, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, along with solid oral and written, communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and manage conflicts, both internal and external.
  • Ability to communicate clearly across all levels of the organization; ability to listen, and determine appropriate responses and actions.
  • Highly motivated and energetic, with a strong bias for action and results.
  • Able to work well with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to drive work to completion.

 

Education:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Engineering degree preferred. MBA a plus.
  • Program Management Institute (PMI) certification a plus.
  • Greenbelt certification a plus.
