JOB DESCRIPTION:

Product Engineer (Sensors)

 

Position Summary:

 

This position is responsible for the development, validation and production release of the brake products at assigned OEM customers.  Development responsibilities will include creation and documentation of both technical and program requirements, working with sensor suppliers and performing lab validation at Bendix.  Production release responsibilities will include the creation of applicable specifications, test plans, drawings, and FMEAs.  Close communications with all OEM customers will be required.

  

Essential Functions:

  •  Developing product functional and technical requirements based on feedback from assigned OEMs and end users, along with competitive analysis and benchmarking.
  • Ensuring that all requirements (customer, internal, system, design and test) are properly implemented and maintained in the requirements management system.
  • Creating test plans based on product requirements, oversee testing, interpret results and document testing in DVP&R.
  • Participating in the development of DFMEAs (including linkage activity of S/C’s and C/C’s – critical characteristics) and other safety-related analyses.
  • Supporting regularly scheduled telecons with assigned OEM customers and suppliers
  • Performing project management tasks - maintain project status and milestones; anticipate workload, potential delays, potential problems; provide customer sample quotes, purchase orders, pedigreed parts, shipment status, and customer summary reports.
  • Leading all SuperSensor product technical discussions with assigned OEM customers. 
  • Becoming the technical expert on SuperSensor products’ applications at assigned OEM customers.
  • Authoring product specifications, component drawings and test specifications.
  • Participating in the development of functional safety requirements in accordance with ISO 26262.
  • Interfacing with advanced manufacturing engineers, quality engineering, and plant engineering to implement needed modifications to plant assembly lines and test procedures.
  • Interfacing with plant quality to support the IPA and PPAP processes.
  • Supporting design improvements to existing products within the Bendix SuperSensor product line, including VAVE, improvements to manufacturability and robustness, and development of new customer applications
  • Analyzing of End-Of-Line rejects and warranty returns; synthesis and implementation of solutions.
  • This position may include travel to assigned OEM customer and supplier facilities and to Bendix production facilities in US and Mexico. 

 

Knowledge: 

  • Knowledge of vehicle braking systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of Automotive ISO/QS9000 Total Quality processes preferred.
  • Knowledge of Bendix / Knorr production processes and design practices preferred.
  • Knowledge of Automotive/Heavy Vehicle industry standard documents such as SAE J1455 and J1113 - very helpful.
  • Knowledgeable in mechanical, vibrational, environmental, electrical, and vehicle test processes and procedures - helpful.
  • Knowledge of SAE J1939 operation and testing.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 26262 preferred.
  • Knowledge PMBOK methodologies a plus. 

 

Experience: 

  • 3 + years product development of automotive industry or commercial vehicle industry required.
  • Product development and launch preferred, including: development of specifications, DFMEAs, and DVP&Rs, basic exposure to and interface with PPAP process; Interfacing with manufacturing engineers and customer plants
  • Engineering change processes understanding is required; CAD and PLM tools and design documentation including creation and/or checking of drawings.
  • Validation testing including mechanical, electrical, climatic environments with system and vehicle-level experience.
  • Experience working in Agile environment a plus, with use of tools including Miro, Jira, and Microsoft tools (Teams, Outlook, Access, Excel, PPT, etc).
  • Current product support, including: statistical analysis of production data, design of experiments, component failure analysis, and maintenance of specifications, drawings, and BOMs.

 

 Skills:

  • Familiar with common engineering tools (ERP – SAP, Teamcenter, Active workspace, CAD)
  • Good organizational skills, capable of maintaining schedules and communicating progress to management.
  • Outstanding professional presence
  • Effective communicating with customers and suppliers at all levels.
  • Capable of multi-tasking and adapting to changing priorities. 
  • Demonstrated ability to be a Team player
  • Demonstrated ability as a self-starter/self-motivating 
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

 

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a similar field is required. A Master’s Degree in these fields of Engineering is preferred.
