JOB DESCRIPTION:

Position Title:              Manager, Functional Safety Process

Reports To:                 Director, Functional Safety * Cyber Security

Position Summary:

 

This position will manage the functional safety team, processes and activities that ensure relevant functional safety (ISO 26262), processes (DFMEA) and quality (TS16949) standards are achieved and maintained for its current and future electronic and electromechanical safety systems.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Ensures that the functional safety activities are planned and performed within assigned project(s)
  • Ensures that  the project teams are coached to comply with ISO 26262 functional safety standard
  • Responsible for assigned functional safety activities within assigned project(s)
  • Plans and monitors the progress of assigned functional safety activities against the project’s safety plan
  • Contributes improvement ideas and lessons learned to Functional Safety Director for continuous improvement of the functional safety activities in the corporate development process
  • Ensures that functional safety activities are fulfilled by appropriate resources on assigned project(s)
  • Supports functional safety discussions with customers on assigned project(s)
  • Duty to inform the BU/CoC Functional Safety Director in case of safety risks/ deviations/ conflicts with project team or customer direction (Escalation)
  • If required, aligns functional safety issues in advance with BU/ CoC Functional Safety Director before presenting in Core Team
  • Ensures that their judgements regarding the achievements of functional safety within a pre-gate review is aligned with the chosen Functional Safety Assessor.
  • The manager will ensure that the functional safety engineers work within the product teams and other cross-functional teams on vehicle systems in order to develop safety concepts and validation steps required to achieve the safety goals of the systems. The functional safety engineer will collaborate in research projects (concerning functional safety). The engineer  is delegated to develop system architecture in relation with the development process and methodology for embedded software for controllers used within mechatronic developments for on and off-highway commercial vehicles.
  • Drive and coordinate activities to improve Functional Safety including creation / monitoring of relevant internal processes (ISO 26262 Functional safety - Road Vehicles), CMMI (Capability Maturity Process Integrated) and ISO 15504 SPICE, their implementation for electronics products to achieve the desired levels and coordination with Europe to ensure alignment. Maintains the safety plan and monitors the progress of the safety activities against the safety plan
  • Coordinate the implementation of Quality activities for the Electronics business unit, including alignment of electronics quality projects with published Breakthrough Quality program guidelines. Manage the completion of improved DFMEA, PFMEA, and associated control plans and work instructions for safety critical electronic products per established schedule
  • This position will lead the team which includes guideing, coaching and developing the direct reports to the position.  The role will ensure Functional Safety requirements are in place working directly with product engineering, manufacturing plants, external suppliers, and quality engineering
  • Resolves critical issues during the entire life cycle of the project programs

 

 

Knowledge:

 

  • Must have knowledge about functional safety standards like IEC 61508, EN 13849, ISO 15998, ISO 25119, ISO 26262. IEC 62061, and other related standards for hardware and software development like CMMI,INCOSE.
  • Must know quality management standards like ISO 9001, TS 16949, APQP,  programming in C-language, SYSML (UML), compilers, operating systems used for embedded systems.
  • Understands object-oriented software development FMEA, problem solving tools, application software, in-vehicle communications networks like CAN, Flexray, TTP, LIN, .good project management skills, Model Based Software Development and auto-code generation with Targetlink or Real-time Workshop Embedded Coder, Mathworks tools like, Matlab-Simulink, Stateflow.
  • Other tools like AUTOSar, controls theory, 16-bit of microprocessors Infinion C167 en XC 161, 32 controllers of Freescale.
  • Strong technical knowledge and project management knowledge and organizational skills.
  • Must know how to build customer relationship skills.

 

Experience:

 

  • At least 7+ years’ experience in automotive/commercial vehicle electronic HW/SW development

 

Skills:

 

  • Detailed knowledge and experience in application of automotive functional safety hazard mitigations, including design techniques, implementation methods, verification and validation per ISO 26262
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-national company with counterparts in other countries
  • Interdisciplinary systematic thinking / system comprehension / team player
  • Will participate in the continuous improvement of processes and procedures to develop software.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and manage conflicts, both internal and external, as well as with counterparts in Europe
  • Strong ability in establishing milestones, project planning and implementation (execution skills) while meeting commitments. Ability to prioritize, schedule, and plan; anticipate obstacles and manage risks
  • Leadership skill set, able to lead and team and drive collaboration with others
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; capable of formal and informal discussions at all levels of the business, customer, and supplier organizations

 

Education:

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering in the field of functional safety or other related areas in the field of Safety.
  • Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems. Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems/Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field. Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Information Systems Security, Cybersecurity, or related field.
