Position Summary:


As an Agile/Scrum development team member, this position is responsible for engineering testing of electric motor driven air compressors, including new products and product enhancements. The ideal candidate has testing experience with air compressors, engines, pumps, electric motors & drives, and mechatronic systems, including expertise in metrology, data acquisition & control, test equipment & instrumentation, and test standards & procedures. The candidate has demonstrated success completing hands-on test projects and improving the state of the art in an engineering test environment. The candidate is familiar with DFMEA, 8D, DOE, DVP&R, GD&T.


Essential Functions:


  • Complete engineering lab & field test work; set up equipment, perform tests, analyze results, draw conclusions, make recommendations to advance the electric motor driven air compressor product line.
  • Achieve expertise in lab & field test processes; participate in improvements of work flow, equipment selection, instrument calibration, test & inspection methodology, procedure documentation, data analysis & reporting, training.
  • Coordinate with engineering team to validate new products or product enhancements, audit product quality, investigate warranty root cause, benchmark products, develop new tests, complete design validation plan & report (DVP&R).
  • Deliver technical results to various stakeholders; compile test reports and participate in technical reviews throughout the product development cycle.
  • Contribute within a global cross-functional team environment involving customers, manufacturing, quality, supply base; including alignment of test processes with global labs.
  • Contribute to Agile/Scrum environment, including daily scrum, backlog refinement, sprint planning, sprint review, sprint retrospective, and scrum artifacts.




  • Metrology, data acquisition & control, test equipment & instrumentation, test standards & procedures as applied to electric motor driven air compressors.
  • Document control with Teamcenter Unified Architecture or similar system for engineering drawings, specifications, test procedures, test reports.
  • Design Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (DFMEA) using AIAG methodology.
  • Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) using ASME Y14.5M-1994.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes for metal casting, forging, precision machining, stamping, material treatment, molding, wiring, circuits, assembly.
  • Validation of mechatronic components including sensors, electrical connectors, wire harnesses, electric motors/drives, circuit boards, bearings, seals, gaskets, springs, fasteners, fittings, coolants, lubricants.
  • Problem solving (e.g. Six Sigma), root cause investigation, corrective action (e.g. 8D), design of experiments (DOE).




  • Proven track record of project ownership, applying mechanical/electrical product testing knowledge and well-established technical methodologies.
  • Experience in related industry preferred, e.g. automotive, commercial vehicle, electric vehicle, engine, driveline, braking system, electric motors.
  • Testing expertise preferred in rotating machinery, reciprocating piston machinery, electric motors & controllers, vehicle CAN data bus.




  • Ability to assimilate data quickly and drive engineering decisions.
  • Capable of prioritizing time/resources/goals and contributing with sense of urgency.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and a positive/proactive work ethic.
  • Hands-on aptitude for mechanical products, manufacturing fixtures/tooling, machine shop, test processes, and engineering drawings.




  • BSME or BSMET degree, or Engineering degree in related field (such as Mechatronic or Electrical) is required.
  • Additional certifications a plus, such as Agile/Scrum, Six-Sigma Green Belt.
