JOB DESCRIPTION:

Job Title:                  Engineer 2, Product (Trailer)

 

Job Location:          35500 Chester Road, Avon, Ohio 44011

                                     

Work Hours:            Full time, 40 hours per week (M-F, 8 am to 5 pm)

 

 

Job Duties: This position is responsible for supporting the trailer electronics products and systems.  Responsibilities include: validation, production release, testing, application and customer support of trailer ABS, roll stability and other related electronics systems for trailers.  Production release responsibilities will include the creation of applicable specifications, test plans, drawings, and FMEAs.  Customer application and support responsibilities include release of new variants to support customer applications; track and HIL testing to support product releases, competitive benchmarking and new applications; provide training, troubleshoot and resolve customer issues;  support new customer orders; and work closely with senior technical personnel to resolve customer issues.  The position will also be responsible for other technical responsibilities including analysis, implementation and validation of design changes for cost reductions, supplier transitions or product improvements.  Specific job responsibilities include:

 

  • Develop product functional and technical requirements based on feedback from vehicle OEMs, fleets, competitive analysis and benchmarking
  • Author design specifications, product specifications, component drawings and test specifications
  • Author and update DFMEAs (including linkage activity of S/C’s and C/C’s – critical characteristics) and other safety-related analyses
  • Create and organize test plans(environmental, electrical and mechanical test cycles) based product requirements, oversee testing, interpret results and document testing using Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R)
  • Perform engineering data collection and analysis from simulation and vehicle testing according to standardized test plans
  • Periodically present DVP&R, test results and system validation methods to internal or external stakeholders in a concise and professional manner
  • Interface with quality engineering and plant engineering to implement needed modifications to plant assembly lines and test procedures and support the IPA and PPAP processes
  • Support efforts related to product functional safety
  • Perform analysis of End-Of-Line rejects and warranty returns; synthesize results and implement of solutions
  • Perform essential project management tasks - maintain project status and milestones; report out to management; anticipate workload, potential delays, potential problems
  • Travel to test track, winter test facility, customer demos, and customer facilities to support the application and installation of trailer electronics systems on Customer and OEM vehicles
  • Train customers on features and functions of the trailer electronic systems products and provide technical support to customers via telephone and email
  • Support field troubleshooting calls as needed
  • Interface with hardware and software developers and technicians to solve customer issues
  • Interface with Product Management and Sales teams in identifying enhancements and solving customer issues
  • Re-produce and resolve complex technical issues in a timely manner
  • Use, contribute to and help administer internal technical support documentation including creation and update customer facing documentation for use in training and end user support.
  • This position includes travel to work with engineering teams at Bendix customers.

 

Degree required:  B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering and two years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Electrical Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, or related.  In addition, must have experience in trailer driver assistance or vehicles systems engineering; hands on mechanical, electrical, automotive experience; product design experience; experience with common engineering tools (Teamcenter, PTC); experience with participating in the FMEA and DVP&R process; knowledge of electronic vehicle control systems (ABS Systems); knowledge of air brake systems; design of experiment capabilities / ability to execute and document the experiment into a test management system; knowledge of applicable NHTSA requirements and SAE Recommended Practices; Total Quality and Product Safety skills including familiarity with ISO-9001, Six Sigma, Functional Safety ISO26262.

 

Travel requirements (if any): Domestic travel 20-25%

 

Remote work:  May work remote two days per week.
