JOB DESCRIPTION:

Position Summary:

This position will support the Occupational Safety function across all Bendix locations.  Individual will be responsible for leading many aspects of the safety function, with particular emphasis on the HSE review and risk mitigation of existing and new manufacturing assembly lines and equipment.  

Essential Functions:

• Conducting HSE equipment reviews, machine guarding ergonomic assessments to identify gaps to the HSE standards.
• Applies standard safety engineering techniques, analysis, and criteria to define and establish mitigation actions to reduce or eliminate risk identified in all equipment assessments.
• Defines and tracks corrective actions needed to close identified gaps for equipment reviews and machine safety assessments.
• Eases secure CAPEX funding, obtains quotes, coordinates with external vendors/consultants, and helps coordinate execution of  projects.
• Facilitates coordination with local engineering/technicians or external vendors or contractors required to finish the work.
• Supports the development of other controls engineers and HSE professionals in the manufacturing locations.
• Supports new product launches with respect to HSE reviews and machine guarding assessments.
• Supports plant operations in the selection and installation of machine control devices for safety.
• Liaison between the HSE department and AME department.
• Supports vendor development of machine guarding control systems for testers and other equipment.
• Maintain inventory of Safety control systems and develop a 5-year strategy around development of systems and maintenance of systems. Include input into the capital forecast.
• Support equipment vendor activity from concept through installation; including RFQ, equipment design reviews, and runoffs.
• Determine preventive maintenance plans and replacement schedules for safety rated components.
• Provide expertise and support to Manufacturing Engineering personnel on operations improvements projects.
• Lead the development of standards for machine guarding safety and controls. Integrate the guarding risk assessment with new process launches.
• Assists Group HSE in special projects and corporate auditing at manufacturing sites.

Experience:

• Engineer 1: 3+ years related experience with bachelor’s degree
• Engineer 2: 5+ years related experience with bachelor’s degree
• Engineer 3:  7+ years related experience with bachelor’s degree.

Knowledge:

• Technical background in safety, industrial engineering, controls engineering, mechatronics
• Working knowledge of machine automation and assembly systems integration
• Proven experience with PC based control systems as well as panel views, testing equipment, bar coding, etc.
• Strong manufacturing engineering background, with an understanding of process control systems (Allen Bradley and Siemens experience required).

Skills:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lead, motivate and influence others to attain objectives.
• Strong analytical tools – prefer six sigma trained or equivalent.
• Must act with sense of urgency and be able to energize others to work the same to achieve organizational goals/objectives Mature judgment and decision-making ability. Works well within a team environment.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office software products
• Fully Bilingual Spanish/English

Education:

• BS in engineering  or Safety Management or related science.  
• 5+ years’ work experience in engineering related discipline in a manufacturing environment

Travel Requirements:

• 25% travel required to support Mexico and U.S sites.
