JOB DESCRIPTION:

Position Summary:

 

This position is responsible for research, design, development, application and testing of eMobility and Zero Emissions Vehicle (ZEV) electromechanical systems for KB/Bendix Commercial Vehicles in North America.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Assignment will include mechanical design, prototyping, analysis, testing, and release of prototype mechatronics systems
  • Follow market trends and emerging technologies for ZEV systems
  • Identify and evaluate new technology, construction methods, and materials
  • Develop product FMEA and coordinate product validation and tracking through DVP&R
  • Test and validate electromechanical systems
  • Develop and optimize designs in 3D CAD software
  • Validate components, manufacturing, and assembly of prototype designs
  • Collaborate and Support University Partnership(s) for eMobility
  • Participate in mechanical integration of designs into test vehicles
  • Perform competitive benchmarking on new or existing systems
  • Represent Bendix’s interests in professional groups
  • Interface with test engineers, systems engineers, and customers to document system requirements and test results
  • Develop technical documentation for products.
  • Interface with customers, and management to communicate status of projects.
  • Willing to travel (test track, customer locations) as required up to 15%.

 

 

Knowledge:

 

  • Familiar with additive manufacturing design considerations and equipment
  • Ability to use hand tools for assembly or disassembly of tested systems
  • Understanding of thermal management design rules and considerations
  • Familiar with commercial vehicle design rules and considerations for mechatronic systems
  • Proficiency in using modeling CAD design software
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to conceptualize and create mechanical designs based on limited inputs
  • Understanding of electromechanical systems such as valves and solenoids
  • Familiarity with relevant industry organizations such as SAE, SME, IEEE
  • Familiarity with workings of a standards group or other government agencies a plus

 

Experience:

 

  • Engineer 3: 6+ years related experience with bachelor’s degree or 5+ years related experience with master’s degree.
  • Engineer 4: 8+ years related experience with bachelor’s degree or 6+ years related experience with master’s degree.
  • Prior automotive industry or commercial vehicle industry preferred.
  • Strong product design experience.
  • Experience with defining and documenting mechatronic requirements, based on higher order requirements, such as functional specifications, regulatory requirements, and safety requirements.
  • Experience with additive manufacturing
  • Experience with mechanical and environmental testing
  • Experience with tools such as oscilloscopes, probes, DMM, flashing tools
  • Experience in using Vector CANalyzer, CANdela, CANDiva, CANope, CANoe tools a plus.

Education:

 

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering or a related field is required
  • M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering or a related field is a plus
