JOB DESCRIPTION:

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for product engineering of engine torsional vibration dampers. The ideal candidate has automotive industry experience as a technical expert versed in customer communication, design, simulation, measurement technique, validation testing, and problem solving. The candidate has demonstrated success completing hands-on engineering projects and is familiar with CAD, GD&T, CAE, DFMEA, 8D, DOE, DVP&R.
Essential Functions:
• Develop engine torsional vibration dampers; accompany the product from concept through series production, including torsional vibration simulation, production- and cost-optimized product design, and product validation with customers involving onsite measurement.
• Achieve expertise in engine damper product function, customer requirements, design & simulation, test equipment & processes, inspection methodology, trouble-shooting.
• Interface with customers on complex product engineering activities, requiring cross-disciplinary integration and wide application of concepts related to engine dampers.
• Utilize design simulation software and Creo 7 CAD to create 3-D models and associated drawings; ensure proper application of GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, and design analysis; manage routine change requests impacting bill-of-materials and drawings.
• Complete engineering lab & field test work; set up equipment, perform tests, analyze results, draw conclusions, make recommendations to advance the engine damper product line.
• Coordinate with engineering team to validate new products or product enhancements, audit product quality, address quality issues, investigate warranty root cause, complete design validation plan & report (DVP&R).
• Deliver technical results to various stakeholders; compile design analysis reports & test reports and participate in technical reviews throughout the product life cycle.
• Contribute within a global cross-functional team environment involving customers, engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply base; travel internationally as needed to customer sites, manufacturing plants, R&D centers.
Knowledge:
• Design Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
• Product lifecycle management with Teamcenter or similar PLM/PDM system.
• Torsional vibration simulation and / or multi body simulation.
• Modeling & drawing with Creo 7 as applied to engine dampers.
• Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Metrology, data acquisition & control, test equipment & instrumentation, test standards & procedures as applied to engine dampers.
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes for metal casting, forging, precision machining, stamping, welding, fastening, material treatment, assembly.
• Problem solving (e.g. Six Sigma), root cause investigation, corrective action (e.g. 8D), design of experiments (DOE).
Additional Position Description    
Experience:
• Ideally 3+ years working experience in simulation and design of anti-vibration products.
• Experience in 3D CAD modeling, with expectation to learn Creo 7.
• Proven track-record of working independently by applying product design & testing knowledge and well-established technical methodologies.
• Experience in related industry, e.g. automotive, commercial vehicle, engine, driveline, industrial.
• Demonstrated aptitude to become technical expert in engine dampers.
Skills:
• Ability to assimilate data quickly and drive engineering decisions.
• Capable of prioritizing time/resources/goals and leading with sense of urgency.
• Able to handle multiple conflicting priorities and interface with customers and operations teams.
• Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; English language required.
• Positive/proactive work ethic.
• Aptitude for mechanical products, design/analysis processes, manufacturing fixtures/tooling, test processes.
• Willingness to travel (~25+ %).
Education:
• Require bachelor engineering degree in related field, or bachelor physics degree.
• Advanced degree a plus.
• Additional certifications a plus, such as Six Sigma Green Belt and Agile/Scrum.
