JOB DESCRIPTION:

Position Summary:
This position will perform a full range of technical work including vehicle track testing, vehicle field studies, root cause analysis, road load data collection, data analysis and vehicle test reports.

 

Essential Functions:
•Coordinate Vehicle preparation and testing with Track, contract drivers, customer fleets, and Garage.
•Specify vehicle instrumentation and data acquisition instrumentations, and guide or perform installation on a vehicle, completing troubleshooting of vehicle systems and test instrumentation, utilizing vehicle diagnostics as required.
•Develop and document test procedures for track and vehicle testing for road mileage accumulation, failure mode evaluations, and vehicle durability.
•Support design and fabrication of vehicle fixtures and brackets and vehicle modifications needed to install test products and data acquisition units.
•Track vehicles on test, perform periodic test product inspections, retrieve data from acquisition systems and data loggers, and maintain test documentation.
•Prepare test reports and provide status updates for design product teams, and management.
•Work closely with product design teams across Bendix and Global locations to integrate products from multiple design teams into planned vehicle and track tests.
•Interface across organization with multiple Agile/Scrum teams to coordinate actions, vehicle modifications, product installations, testing, schedules, and communication of results.
•Interface with local test tracks and OEM customers as needed.
•Identify and implement improvements to testing methods, data collection, data analysis, and procedures for continuous improvement and quality of validation testing.
•Able to travel to test sites as necessary including. Willing to travel > 25%.
•Has appreciable latitude for independent action and decision.
•Position is non-supervisory.

Knowledge:
•Knowledge of commercial vehicle pneumatic and electrical systems, and diagnostic interfaces.
•Knowledge and experience with J1939 CAN (communication) systems and vehicle communications and electronics a plus. Ability to interpret CAN communication on a vehicle.
•Knowledge of electronic vehicle control systems preferred
•Knowledge of Commercial Truck and braking system regulations
•Demonstrated problem-solving skills in a team environment
•Participation in the DVP&R planning and process
•Able to write test procedures and test plans
•Able to support demonstrations of product functions to OEM customers
•Knowledge of air brake systems preferred
•Knowledge of applicable NHTSA requirements and SAE Recommended Practices preferred
•Knowledge of ISO17025 is a plus.
•Ability to work in a cross-functional team in a dynamic working environment including international team members
•Comfortable communicating with internal and external customers
•Ability to read blueprints and electrical and Hydraulic schematics.

 

 

Experience:
•1-10 years of vehicle testing or vehicle system testing representations within the automotive industry or commercial vehicle industry is required.  Experience with OEM vehicle testing is a plus.
•Experience with test track, road mileage, and vehicle level systems testing.
•Six Sigma & statistical tool experience is preferred.
•8D process experience and demonstrated implementation of PCA solutions will be highly regarded.

Skills:
•Expert level experience with data acquisition and vehicle diagnostic tools.
•Effective at communicating complex technical principles with a variety of audience including customers and suppliers.
•Communicate well in both (technical) English and Spanish.
•Self-starter/self-motivating with a bias for action and results driven. Detail oriented and driven to complete assigned tasks on time
•Capable of multi-tasking and adapting to changing priorities
•Strong problem-solving skills
•Solid analytical skills
•Good organizational and project management skills
•Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is a plus, however, must be eligible to obtain CDL.
•Demonstrated mechanical aptitude or experience with hands-on vehicle maintenance in automotive or heavy truck industry.
•Able to create schedules and milestone project plans, track details and provide status reports.

 

Education:
•B.S. in Mechanical, Electrical, or Controls Engineering is required
