JOB DESCRIPTION:
Position Summary:
Mechanical Product Engineer position is responsible for engineering activities on pneumatic valves used in the product line of railway braking components and system. Normally would be considered the local expert for Pneumatic products and provide technical support for manufacturing and quality teams. Technical responsibilities for a specific product/family of products include reviewing issues with first time pass rate, review and disposition of parts rejected by quality, supplier transitions, cost improvements and support new variants release. Support of technical documentation including maintaining DFMEA’s, supporting with PFMEA’s, etc…
Essential Functions:
- Maintain DFMEA’s and Support PFMEA’s
- Interface with Advance Manufacturing Engineer, Quality Engineers and Plant Engineers to implement modifications needed as production assembly lines to comply with product specifications/requirements.
- Collaborate with manufacturing to build pilot products for validation testing.
- Performs tolerance stack analysis (which include GD&T analysis) to validate design components (castings, machining, and injection molded plastic) and assemblies for manufacturing.
- Create and coordinate Product Quality Audits (PQAs).
- Support problem-solving activities with cross-functional teams providing conclusions and recommendations based on production test failures.
- Collaborates with manufacturing teams (quality and assembly) to develop processes complying with product design requirements as necessary.
- Coordinates activities with quality engineers, manufacturing engineers, suppliers and customers as necessary.
- The individual will display and further develop an area of technical expertise, to be used as a “Go-To” person within the manufacturing site for the products they are responsible for.
- The employee has the authority to stop the production line, when he/she notices that the product has a quality problem or defect.
- Comprehends manufacturing processes (e.g. die casting, machining, stamping, etc.) associated to products responsibilities.
- This position includes travel to KBRNA locations to collaborate with other Engineering teams.
- Consider Safety and 5’s as high priority
- Work in AGILE/SCRUM environments
Knowledge:
- Proficient on DFMEA, PFMEA, Continuous Improvement and 5’s
- Proficient in CAD
- Proficient in understanding 2D drawings
- Root Cause Analysis Techniques (Six Sigma, Shainin, other…)
- Product Data Management PDM/PLM (Windchill preferable)
- Proficient in GD&T (Stack Up Analysis)
- Knowledge in Rail Braking Systems is strongly preferred
- Pneumatics knowledge is strongly preferred
- Engineering document control/ release processes
- SAP knowledge is a plus.
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of Engineering experience in a structured engineering environment
- At least 3 years of experience in product responsibility with exposure to production facilities.
- High level of experience in DFMEA’s and PFMEA’s,.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes (e.g. die casting, machining, stamping, etc.)
- Experience in design and manufacturing reviews
- GD&T and stack-up analysis experience. GD&T certification preferred.
- Engineering change processes understanding is required; CAD and PLM tools and design documentation including creation and/or checking of drawings
- Exposure to automated testing and results analysis preferred
Required Skills:
- Familiar with common engineering administrative tools (MS, ERP–SAP, Windchill, CAD)
- Effective communication Spanish and English (Verbal & Writing) with good interpersonal relationships (Soft Skills)
- Self-starter / self-motivating / team worker.
- Capable of multi-tasking and adapting to changing priorities.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Good organizational skills, capable of maintaining schedules and communicating progress to management
- Well organized, right attitude working under pressure and at overall activities.
- Safety culture, Continues Improvement mentality/actions and 5’s.
Education/Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar field is required. Master’s in Mechanical Engineering fields is preferable.
