JOB DESCRIPTION:

Serves as the subject matter expert in the programming and fabrication of machines and robotics in all plants. Programs, tests, and refines internal coding as standards and developments evolve. Builds and verifies hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems for machinery. Maintains ownership of diagnostics thought life cycle of machinery, serving as a facilitator for troubleshooting and repair. Establishes framework while advising and training later in the lifecycle of development and operation.
Essential Duties
1. Fabricates, updates, and facilitates diagnostics of machine controls and robotics
2. Works closely with integrators and confirms completion of work requirements
3. Advises other departments on current projects
4. Trains and instructs employees' as necessary
5. Programs machines and robotics with care to periodical updating as needed
6. Maintains oversight for entire lifecycle of machines and robotics
7. Adheres to established safety procedures and 5 “S” standards (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize and Sustain the cycle) required to perform daily duties in this position, including the proper techniques used in lifting/moving of parts weighing 40lbs or more.
8. Adheres to current health, safety, and environmental policies (ISO14001). Incumbent is empowered to identify, stop, and communicate or escalate appropriate action in regard to safety, health, and environmental concerns.
9. Awareness of current quality policies and procedures (IATF 16949). Incumbent is empowered to identify, stop, and communicate or escalate appropriate action in regard to product quality.
10. Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
1. High school diploma and two-year trade school or equivalent.
2. Mechatronics degree is highly preferred
3. Five years of work experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment is highly preferred.
4. Ability to program PLCs (programmable logic controller) using ladder logic
5. Electrical design and controls implementation utilizing DC and AC circuits
6. Expert understanding of 2D drawings in CAD highly preferred
7. CNC experience preferred.
8. Fabrication and manufacturing experience preferred
9. Problem solving/troubleshooting skills
10. Ability to work during off-shift periods as required
11. Ability to stand, stoop, bend and lift from the floor, walk, reach frequently throughout the workday
12. Must be able to work in a team environment
Physical Requirements:
In performing the essential elements of this position, the following physical activities are required. The activities are measured in the amount of on-the-job time that is spent performing these activities.
Continuously sit, stand, walk, and interact with work stations and office for the duration of the shift. General shop machine tool noise, dirt grease, and coolants from the operation of machine tools, machines and equipment. The weight can range up to 40 lbs. in which proper lifting/moving techniques are required.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • H.S. Diploma or equivalent required, Technical degree, Trade school education preferred
  • Two years of automation technician experience in manufacturing environment preferred
  • Communication skills, ability to read, write and comprehend instruction
  • Ability to stand, stoop, bend, walk, reach
  • Ability to lift items up to 50lbs without assistance
  • Manual dexterity and problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of JIC, NEC, NFPA, standards and codes
  • Ability to produce sketches and perform basic board drafting
  • Knowledge of electronics, PLC’s, hydraulic and pneumatic valves, and cylinder operation and repair
  • Knowledge of light and heavy manufacturing machine repair methods and technology
  • Knowledge of shop mathematics
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive vehicles such as pick-up truck and forklift
  • Ability to utilize computerized drafting equipment to draw machine components and systems preferred
  • Ability to convey electrical, electronic and mechanical logic as well as complex drawings, specifications and formulas preferred
  • Ability to use a wide variety of precision and complex  instruments preferred

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:  General shop and machine tool noise, dirt, grease, chips and coolants from the operation of machine tools and the assembly of machines and equipment.  Normal working position is standing or walking through the plant.  Some repetitive lifting/moving is required, depending on the daily assignment or tasks being performed. May work from a ladder, platform, scaffold inside or outside of the plant, in confined areas or in wide temperature extremes.  The weight can range up to 100 lbs therefore proper lifting/moving techniques, i.e. use of a crane, are required in excess of 50 lbs.
