Master thesis "Bonding calculation for metal bonding"

LOCATION: KematenAustria | BRAND: IFE | REQUISITION ID: 2073  | ON-SITE/REMOTE: On-site

Every IFE product contains far more than just a component for a rail vehicle. IFE develops pioneering system solutions for safe and environmentally friendly mobility. As a company, we are committed to delivering high quality and reliable products to our customers. We value people who show initiative, work independently and contribute to our team success. IFE is part of Knorr-Bremse group offering global collaboration, limitless professional growth and extensive benefits for you and your family.

INITIAL SITUATION

  • A significant proportion of the door leaves produced by IFE are designed as bonded constructions. Two cover sheets made of aluminum are glued onto the profile frame and the sandwich core.

  • According to the DIN 6701 bonding standard, a mathematical proof of strength is required for safety-relevant bondings, although the thin-layer adhesives used in cover sheet bonding are difficult to describe in terms of calculation. There is still no regulation or guideline on this.

  • In order to be prepared for future optimization tasks and for possible changes in the interpretation of the standard, a calculation method for describing door leaf bonding should be found.

  • In a preliminary work, the CZM (Cohesive Zone Modeling) method was already considered in more detail and the necessary parameters of the adhesive used at IFE were determined.

TASKS

  • Analysis of a simple door leaf and estimation of the critical bonding areas

  • Define simple specimens with which a loading situation analogous to the critical door leaf areas can be generated.

  • FE calculation of these specific specimens

  • Performing or supervising measurements to determine the load limits of the specimens

  • Comparing the FE results with the values of the measurements

  • Documenting and interpreting the results

REQUIREMENTS

  • Studies at a technical university or university of applied sciences

  • Basic knowledge of FEM (Finite Element Method) and fracture mechanics

  • Initiative

  • Solution-oriented way of working

The collective agreement minimum salary for this position is EUR 2.057,00 gross per month on a full-time basis.
