POSITION SUMMARY:                                                                                               

 

The Project Quality Engineer supports product launches at the plant level, leading APQP activities and Safe Launch tracking to ensure alignment with customer specifications and internal quality standards. This role also assists the Quality Manager in establishing performance standards, procedures, and audit controls, while driving process improvements using data analysis to enhance product and service quality.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

 

  1. Establish, implement, and maintain Quality Assurance programs and procedures throughout all stages of manufacturing to ensure the highest product quality, under the direction of the Quality Manager.

 

  1. Support the Quality Manager in maintaining compliance with IATF 16949 and internal quality policies by actively promoting adherence to quality procedures and taking appropriate action to address product safety and quality concerns.

 

  1. Lead technical discussions with product engineering teams across Centers of Competence (CoCs) to resolve specification issues and manage deviations.

 

  1. Lead structured problem-solving and root cause analysis activities to support shop floor QE’s, operations, engineering, and maintenance teams in identifying, resolving, and preventing quality and process issues.

 

  1. Ensure full compliance with Product Safety Procedure requirements, including the Product Safety Escalation Process.

 

  1. Manage cross-functional relationships with other departments to support effective completion of project tasks

 

  1. Conduct and oversee Measurement System Analysis (MSA) for plant equipment and gages to ensure measurement accuracy, repeatability, and reliability in support of product quality and compliance.

 

  1. Lead and coordinate change management and deviation processes, ensuring all changes are properly documented, risk-assessed, approved, and communicated in line with customer and regulatory requirements, including customer PPAP’s.

 

  1. Understand and manage Critical and Special Characteristics by applying appropriate control tools to ensure process capability and product stability, while mitigating liability risks.

 

  1. Provide guidance and leadership to the manufacturing plant on process improvements and implementation of error-proofing (Poka Yoke) solutions.

 

  1. Support Quality Engineers and Technicians in performing sampling, testing, and reporting of quality data.

 

  1. Evaluate material procedures and processes for conformance to customer requirements and support organizational quality objectives.

 

  1. Identify adverse quality trends through statistical analysis and assist engineering and manufacturing teams in developing corrective actions.

 

  1. Investigate, evaluate, and report on returned products from customers as required.

 

  1. Represent the plant in customer interactions for new projects and changes, including claim investigations and problem resolution, with proactive communication and planning.

 

  1. Build and maintain strong customer relationships to support quality and project success.

 

  1. Adhere to and promote current health, safety, and environmental policies (ISO 14001), and take appropriate action to address concerns.

 

  1. Provide leadership and support for additional duties as assigned by the Quality Manager.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a KPS/ lean manufacturing environment is preferred including significant experience with lean tools such as 5-S, Kanban, Value Stream Mapping, Root Cause Analysis and Project lead
  • Six Sigma Black or Green Belt certified as a plus
  • High level of energy, enthusiasm and optimism, as well as a sense of urgency and passion for excellence.
  • Strong problem solving (A3, 5W, 8D) and critical thinking skills are required.
  • Must be able to use problem solving methods and advance statistical analysis to resolve issues.
  • Ability to work and effectively communicate with people at all levels of the organization.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint), and Statistical Tools (SPC, Data Analysis, Minitab).
  • APQP / PPAP / FMEA / Control Plan / MSA / Gage R&R Knowledge and hands on experience are required
  • Solid planning, leadership, and administrative skills are required
  • Excellent interpersonal & organizational skills are required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
  • Must be able to effectively lead employees on projects promoting a team-orientated environment.
  • Must be able to lead, instruct, and maintain safety rules and regulations.
  • Strong and positive team building skills are required.
