JOB DESCRIPTION:
Position Title: Technician 2-4 (rGSBC)
Reports To: Supervisor, Engineering

Position Summary:
This Technician position is to provide electronics test support; responsible for electronics testing, validation and trouble-shooting. This position would provide general technician support for all electronic products; including but not limited to antilock brake systems, stability systems, driver assistance systems, and tire pressure monitoring systems.
The position requires a hands-on individual with mechanical/electrical skills and knowledge of instrumentation, electrical/electronic controls, pneumatics, and test methodology. The individual must have good verbal and written communication skills and willing to work in a multi-disciplined team environment. Occasional travel for field tests and retrofits and occasional in-house overtime will be required.
Essential Functions:
- Must be enthusiastic, energetic, and exemplify strong professional ethics. Must be, organized and a self-starter.
- Ability to communicate well with subordinates, colleagues, and management in presenting results of work performed.
- Support mechanical, electrical and climatic test activities with internal product engineers for existing and new Electronics’ products; reviewing Design Validation Plans (DVP’s), conducting tests & updating Test Requests (TR’s), and reviewing results with product engineers to draw conclusions.
- Support test activities with external test facilities; providing specifications and participating on-site as a test facilitator and witness.
- Support work related to development of engineering documents including; design specifications, DFMEAs and DVP&Rs.
- Actively participate in product groups’ critical design reviews for product development.
- Responsible for developing electronic test fixtures to support product validation.
- Become an expert in certain Electronics’ lab test protocols and test standards.
- Reading/creating circuit schematic drawings in support of HW product development.
- Trouble-shoot circuit boards with standard electronics tools; oscilloscope, multimeter, etc.
- Responsible for conducting root cause analysis of Electronics’ components; DV test parts and field returns.
- Assist and/or lead efforts to create customer test reports to document special investigations (root cause analysis, etc.).
- Use data acquisition equipment to measure various parameters, temperature, pressure, force, humidity, etc.
- Responsible for lab safety / ergonomics / housekeeping.
- 25% of domestic travel per year is expected.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and a positive/proactive work ethic.
- Possesses knowledge-base of common electronic lab tasks and requires limited guidance from engineering resources.
- Working knowledge of environmental test standards for the automotive industry.
- Experience with diagnostic software and automotive diagnostic interfaces are a plus.
- Experience with hand-soldering for surface-mount components on printed circuit boards is a plus.
- Experience with intermediate machining as required to build custom test fixtures is a plus.
- Capable of prioritizing time/resources/ goals and possess strong interpersonal skills to ensure success in a cross-functional, team environment.
- Ability to plan and organize technical projects.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Experience in statistical analysis such as Design of Experiment (DOE) methods a plus.
- Ability to assimilate data quickly.
Experience:
Technician 2:
- Associate degree in engineering technology is desirable.
- An associate degree in engineering technology and three years’ experience, or a high school degree and five years of related technical experience without an Associate degree is required.
- Six Sigma Greenbelt certification is desirable.
Technician 3:
- Associate degree in Engineering Technology is desirable.
- An Associate degree in Engineering Technology and seven years’ experience, or a high school degree and nine years of related technical experience without an Associate’s degree is required.
- Six Sigma Greenbelt certification is desirable.
Technician 4:
- Associate degree in Engineering Technology with 12 years’ experience is required.
- Greenbelt certification is recommended.
Education:
- Greenbelt certification is a plus.
Travel:
- Expected travel up to 25%. Will be heavier during testing season (winter).
