JOB DESCRIPTION:
Position Title: Problem Solver - SQD
Reports To: Manager, Supplier Quality Development
Position Summary:
This position will work in conjunction with the business to drive problem-solving within the organization. It will involve partnering with various areas of the organization, including all North America SQD/SQD teams, global supplier quality engineers, operations at plants and product groups, and our suppliers. This individual will use technical problem-solving tools to identify issues, prioritize them based on seriousness and urgency, investigate underlying causes, and collaborate with the team to drive toward the best and most logical solution.
Essential Functions:
- Collaborate with the SQE/SQD local and globally to define, implement and drive continuous improvement, using problem solving skills. Areas include:
- Leading the problem solving if supplier can’t launch the new project on time.
- Diagnosing and fixing technological problems.
- Reducing or eliminating a business expenditure by using problem-solving skills.
- Reorganizing a task, team, or process to make it more effective.
- Using original thinking to provide a solution the business has not tried before.
- Assist business-wide with complex problem-solving including assisting with data analysis/interpretation, Designs of Experiments, and continuous improvement solutions. Conduct research to gather facts and information. Must be able to look for solutions by providing a fresh approach to an issue.
- Leading critical issues, including delays in launching and critical parts that can't meet the requirements, with the ability to follow through and drive issues from start to finish.
- Partner with the team to implement solutions and drive stability as part of the resolution to the issue/concern.
- Complete special projects utilizing multiple skill sets on a continuous basis.
- Create and put into effect quality control policies and processes.
- Assist in or drive in training expectations in relevant areas for the business.
- May be called upon to assist in adherence to industry rules and standards by conducting or participating in audits.
- Conduct audits at suppliers as needed.
Knowledge:
- Technical proficiency in DMAIC, Lean, Kaizen, RedX, and Workout as well as other operational excellence tools and processes.
- DMAIC, Lean, Kaizen, and Workout process improvement techniques at the Blackbelt and/or Greenbelt levels.
- Intermediate knowledge of TS16949 and ISO9001, and Advanced Product Quality Planning
- Candidate will have demonstrated proficiency in hardware, electronics, and software design, as well as leading Quality Assurance teams utilizing DFMEA methodologies, moderating risk assessment and ensuring that the correct methodologies are used.
Experience:
- Experience in manufacturing environments working with problem solving techniques such as process management, Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, RedX, and Workout tools.
- Knowledge of the heavy truck industry, including OE, OES, and all manufacturing processes such as SMF, SC, AC, IC, PL, RU, and EL categories
- Exposure of performing in a problem solving-focused, team-based matrix organization is essential.

- Ability to work through constraints which could be out of your control. Must manage stress quickly while remaining calm with a strong ability to control emotions and behaviors.
- An individual who is able collaborate and puts team success before individual contributions; but can work independently and get the job done with direction or minimal direction.
- Microsoft Office applications, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, specifically Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, and analysis skills.
Education:
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in manufacturing or related fields such as Engineering, Quality Control, or Operations Management.
- MBA or relevant graduate degree preferred.
- Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma required, Master Black Belt highly desired.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in problem-solving related work.
- VDA and PSA certification are preferred.
Travel Requirements:
- Required to travel 35-55%.
