Job Title: Engineer 4, Test [NVH]
Job Location: 35500 Chester Road, Avon, Ohio 44011
Work Hours: Full time, 40 hours per week
Job Duties: This position will perform a full range of technical work in the Wheel End Laboratory, including FMEAs, DVPs, writing new test procedures, signing off on test reports, drafting laboratory management policies and procedures, creating test report templates, developing measurement uncertainty budgets, and conducting inter-laboratory correlation studies. Additionally, this position will oversee laboratory empirical investigations to resolve component-level root cause analyses. A Test Engineer (Level 4) in this role is responsible for ensuring that all technical activities comply with laboratory policies and procedures. This individual is considered a subject matter expert (SME) in NVH for foundation brakes in laboratory testing.
Job Responsibilities:
- Plan, conduct, and coordinate a broad range of complex engineering technical assignments requiring an in-depth knowledge of foundation brake hardware and laboratory testing techniques.
- Support the creation of the DVP&R.
- Execute all tests described in the DVP&R related to dynamometer tests (both NVH and non-NVH), ensuring the evaluation of technical information and the accurate interpretation of test results.
- Analyze test data and write test reports to clearly document test results and conclusions.
- Serve as a technical expert in foundation brake hardware and laboratory test methods.
- Act as a support resource for other Bendix departments requiring test assistance.
- Lead and coordinate technical laboratory activities, guiding test engineers and technician team members in executing test requests.
- Introduce new tools related to testing and data processing.
- Interface with and deliver presentations to internal and external customers.
- Provide technical direction and support to technicians performing tests.
- Participate in and contribute to NVH technical events, fairs, and committees to enhance testing capabilities and introduce new test procedures.
- Collaborate with global technical testing locations (both internal and external) to harmonize processes and correlate test methods and equipment.
- Maintain the dynamometer maintenance and calibration plan, as well as the instruments used for testing.
- Develop and introduce techniques to improve the detection of NVH events in foundation brakes.
Minimum requirements: Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering and eight (8) years of experience as an Engineer within the automotive or commercial vehicle industry. In addition, must have the following:
- Minimum 8 years of experience in foundation brake hardware testing within the automotive or commercial vehicle industry.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in developing and implementing studies and validations in acoustics and vibrations.
- Must have experience with:
- Tools: ProLink, Test Request System, MiniTab, Reliability Tools, Data Acquisition Systems, Automated Test Software, Advanced Office Package, Advanced Excel, LabVIEW, Diadem, and IMC or HBM.
- Supporting standard development with legal and industry standardization organizations, such as SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) and ISO (International Organization for Standardization).
- DFSS and 8D RCA for problem-solving in a team environment, DFMEA for risk assessment, and DVP&R for design validation.
- ISO 17025 standards and their application in laboratory testing and quality management.
- SAE2521, natural frequencies, modal analysis and ODS.
- Air brake systems, including Air Disc Brakes, S-Cam Brakes, Drum Brakes, Actuators, Air Chambers, and Slack Adjusters.
- Conducting brake tests on an inertia dynamometer.
- Calibrating laboratory equipment.
- Design of Experiments (DOE) techniques.
- Reliability methods to assess and improve product durability and performance.
- Process improvements to enhance efficiency, quality, and testing methodologies.
- Application and identification of Critical Characteristics (C/C), Special Characteristics (S/C), and Pass-Thru Characteristics (P/C) for product quality and performance assurance.
- Metrology, data acquisition & control, test equipment & instrumentation, and test standards & procedures as applied to wheel-end brake products.
- Document control using Teamcenter Unified Architecture or a similar system for managing engineering drawings, specifications, test procedures, and test reports.
- NVH techniques, including test procedures, modal analysis, FRF, and ODS.
- Data acquisition, sensor operation, applications, limitations, and advantages.
- Link Engineering software, including ProLink, ScriptEdit, and EditProf.
