Job Title:  Engineer 3, Product Quality

 

Job Location:  35500 Chester Road, Avon, OH 44011

 

Work Hours: Full time, 40 hours per week (M-F, 8 am to 5 pm)

 

Annual Salary: $112,000 - $143,000 per year

 

Job Duties: This position is responsible for developing and implementing product designs and systems that prevent quality-related issues in Bendix and KB products. Lead the implementation of Advanced Quality and Reliability Development and Growth processes for hardware and software development within Bendix’s Mechatronics team.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Lead teams in identifying potential risks and mitigation actions for hardware and software projects. Evaluate potential interactions with other products and systems.
  • Perform in-depth stress and noise factor risk analyses to identify possible product risks and failures, and deploy appropriate design solutions to prevent them.
  • Support the Product Development and Commercialization (PDC) Gate process and the Advanced Product Safety Governance (APSG) protocol throughout the product lifecycle – from feasibility to product launch – in an Agile team environment.
  • Ensure tools such as hazard analysis, fault tree analysis, and Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) are used to identify product safety risks, and ensure that the design is robust enough to meet customer requirements. Manage risk registers, mitigation strategies, and related communication plans.
  • Develop reliability goals to be achieved during product development testing using Reliability Growth (RG) standards, and validate the adequacy of reliability assessments. Lead the planning of assessment techniques.
  • Conduct evaluations against RG plans to determine if programs are progressing as scheduled. Recommend new strategies when programs fall behind.
  • Reassess problem areas and lead the management of corrective action strategies to ensure that failure modes identified during testing are resolved effectively and support the achievement of reliability goals.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships to secure cross-functional resources. Positively influence stakeholders at all levels within and outside the organization. Regularly communicate project status, risks, and scope changes to stakeholders.
  • Serve as the quality focal point for assigned customers within the business unit. Interface with customers and manufacturing plants to define quality requirements and monitor performance.
  • Support breakthrough quality initiatives and participate in special projects as assigned. Assist functional areas and manufacturing locations with Advanced Quality Planning, problem resolution, prevention, and mistake-proofing.
  • Identify weaknesses and potential failure modes in design and manufacturing processes. Coordinate personnel and procedures to analyze, isolate, and address the root causes of failures.

 

Minimum requirements:  Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. Seven (7) years of experience as  Mechanical, Quality, or Electrical Engineer or related. Must have two (2) years of experience in Project and Product Quality in Commercial vehicle, Automotive product, Quality and Product development functions for mechatronics; three (3) years of experience in manufacturing process development; one (1) year of experience in Reliability development and growth; and experience with IATF 16949.

 

Travel requirements: Must be willing to travel domestically and globally up to 25%.

 

Remote/work telecommuting: May work remote 2 days per week.
