JOB DESCRIPTION:
Position Title: Engineer 3, Controls Vehicle (Trailer)
Reports To: Manager, Engineering - Trailer

Position Summary:
This position is responsible for supporting the Trailer electronics products and systems. Responsibilities include validation, production release, testing, application, and customer support of trailer ABS, roll stability and other related electronics systems for trailers. Production release responsibilities will include the creation of applicable specifications, test plans, drawings, and FMEAs. Customer application and support responsibilities include release of new variants to support customer applications; track and HIL testing to support product releases, competitive benchmarking, and new applications; provide training, support new customer orders; and work closely with senior technical personnel to troubleshoot and resolve customer issues.
Essential Functions:
- Develop product functional and technical requirements based on feedback from vehicle OEMs, fleets, competitive analysis, and benchmarking
- Assignments will include product and feature design requirements definition, cross-product communication interfaces, product testing, and release.
- Author design specifications, product specifications, component drawings and test specifications
- Author and update DFMEAs (including linkage activity of S/C’s and C/C’s – critical characteristics) and other safety-related analyses
- Create and organize test plans (Software, electrical and Vehicle test) based on product requirements, oversee testing, interpret results, and document testing using Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R)
- Support efforts related to product functional safety
- Perform essential project management tasks - maintain project status and milestones; report out to management; anticipate workload, potential delays, potential problems
- Travel to test track, winter test facility, customer demos, and customer facilities to support the application and installation of trailer electronics systems on Customer and OEM vehicles
- Train customers on features and functions of the trailer electronic systems products and provide technical support to customers
- Support field troubleshooting calls as needed
- Understand and refine requirements for new Trailer product opportunities.
- Testing embedded software for final product validation.
- Develop and execute technical plans (analysis, simulation, vehicle test) to validate system release and product applications
- Release of products and documentation pertaining to new product development offerings at customers compliant with the Global Change Management process and ASPICE concepts (V-model development, requirements traceability), using tools such as Teamcenter PLM and PTC Integrity
- Software / Hardware in the loop testing.
- Interface with Product Management and Sales teams in identifying enhancements and solving customer issues
- Re-produce and resolve complex technical issues in a timely manner
- Willing to travel (test track, customer locations, winter test) as required up to 25%.
Knowledge:
- Familiar with common engineering tools (Teamcenter, PTC)
- Participation in the FMEA and DVP&R process
- Broad automotive and electronic systems knowledge, preferably related to heavy truck.
- Familiar with software coding techniques and hardware interfaces.

- Design of experiment capabilities / ability to execute and document the experiment into a test management system
- Familiar with C, embedded C, CANalyzer, CANape, CANoe, Matlab, Simulink, dSpace, Python, and TruckSim preferred.
- Knowledge and experience with product quality tools such as system FMEA, DVP&R, ISO 26262, ASPICE, and Functional Safety Concepts.
- Knowledge of applicable NHTSA requirements and SAE Recommended Practices preferred
Experience:
- A minimum of 6+ years of experience preferably in trailer driver assistance or vehicles systems engineering.
- Automotive industry or commercial vehicle industry preferred
- Hands on mechanical, electrical, automotive experience.
- Experience in the heavy-duty truck, bus and/or automotive market is a plus.
- Strong product design experience.
- Ability to work in a cross-functional team in a dynamic working environment including international team members
- Commercial Driver License (CDL) or willingness & capability to obtain CDL
- Greenbelt certified a plus

- Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Systems Engineering is preferred

The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in Avon is $89,900 to $134,900 per year. The final pay offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and years of experience within the job, the type of years and experience within the industry and education. Bendix is a multi-state employer, and this pay scale may not reflect positions that work in other states or locations. Provided they meet all eligibility requirements under the applicable plan documents, employees (and their eligible dependents) will be eligible to enroll in group healthcare plans that offer medical, dental, vision, and basic life and disability insurance. Employees also will be able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan. Employees will also receive 120 hours of vacation leave and 40 hours of Personal Paid Absence every year.
