JOB DESCRIPTION:

Position Summary:

 

This position's primary purpose is the technical customer interface for the foundation braking systems for commercial vehicles. The candidate will support the application requests for air disc brakes and drum brakes within a defined development process, as well as customer field requests. 

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Perform engineering analysis of OEM application requests for air disc brakes and drum brakes and develop the necessary plan for approval and validation.
  • Manage engineering changes, creation/revision of part numbers, Bills of Material, and release of documents within a PLM system (Active Workspace).
  • Work with a cross-functional team to coordinate change requests with customers and meet the agreed upon timing.
  • Maintain database of vehicle application approvals.
  • Utilize and maintain the global application request process in North America.
  • Investigate and provide engineering recommendations for requests from customers regarding the performance of the product in the field.
  • Utilize DFMEA as a risk-assessment tools for customer requests.
  • Perform assignments requiring knowledge of air brake hardware and validation techniques.

 

Knowledge:

 

  • Knowledge of air brake systems and related technologies as well as knowledge of air brake wheel-end components.
  • Knowledge required to complete engineering/scientific tasks and provide analytical predictions of the results.

  • Must be able to manage time and to prioritize efforts with other team members and accept inputs in an open manner to achieve goals rapidly.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Proficiency in technical English is required.
  • Confident with technical presentations to customers, suppliers, and internal management.
  • Must represent themselves and the company well in front of the customer.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • May be required to coordinate test activities on specific assignments. 
  • Development, review, & execution of DFMEA’s.
  • Experience with improving business or technical processes is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Active Workspace PLM is a plus.
  • Creating and revising 3D CAD models and associated drawings with Pro/E is a plus.
  • PC Skills: Microsoft Office Suite; MS Project and Minitab are a plus.
  • Six Sigma or knowledge of statistical tools for problem solving is a plus.

 

Experience:

 

  • 5+ years of related engineering experience preferred.
  • Engineering experience in the global or North American truck industry preferred.

 

 

Education:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required (Mechanical or Electrical preferred)
  • Master’s degree in Engineering a plus

 

Travel:

 

  • Estimated 10% travel (typically North American Bendix, customer, fleet, and supplier locations).
  • The ability to travel freely within the United States, Canada, and Mexico is required.
