The production planner is responsible for translating customer demand and business forecasts into executable production and material plans that support on-time delivery, inventory optimization, and operational efficiency. This role serves as a critical link between Customer Service, Production, Purchasing, Engineering, Logistics, and Suppliers to ensure material availability, schedule adherence, and achievement of service level objectives.

 

The position owns end-to-end supply planning activities including production scheduling, inventory management, capacity analysis, shortage mitigation, and continuous improvement initiatives while supporting the Sales, Inventory & Operations Planning (SIOP) process.

  • Develop and maintain short-, medium-, and long-term production schedules aligned with customer demand, capacity constraints, and inventory targets.
  • Convert demand requirements into executable production plans and manufacturing orders.
  • Balance customer requirements, production capacity, labor availability, and material constraints to optimize plant performance.
  • Drive schedule adherence and production order fill rate performance.
  • Monitor capacity utilization and identify opportunities to improve throughput and resource efficiency.
  • Support SIOP, forecasting, and demand review processes
  • Monitor inventory levels, safety stock strategies, excess and obsolete inventory, and inventory turns
  • Review component shortages and develop mitigation plans to avoid production disruptions.
  • Manage production order releases, prioritization, and scheduling activities within SAP.
  • Perform ATP reviews, shortage analysis, and production readiness assessments.
  • Analyze and resolve system exceptions including COGI and planning errors.
  • Coordinate engineering changes, PPAP implementation, prototype launches, and BOM updates.
  • Ensure proper execution of production labeling and manufacturing documentation processes.
  • Act as a primary planning liaison between Manufacturing, Purchasing, Customer Service, Logistics, Engineering, Quality, and Suppliers
  • Analyze planning performance metrics and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Lead root cause investigations for shortages, backlog, inventory discrepancies, schedule misses, and delivery failures.
  • Develop corrective and preventive actions to improve planning effectiveness.
  • Support digital planning initiatives, process standardization, and automation projects
  • Support PSA Activities and procedures with team members.
  • Perform all those activities that by the nature of the position are required.

 

Management & Supervisory Responsibilities:

 Experience:

5+ years of experience in production planning, supply planning, scheduling, materials management, or supply chain operations.

Experience in a manufacturing environment required.

Experience supporting SIOP processes preferred.

Experience managing supplier-related material constraints and recovery plans preferred.

 

Skills:

  • Advanced SAP ERP/MRP knowledge.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Production scheduling and capacity planning.
  • Inventory management and optimization.
  • Material Requirements Planning (MRP)
  • Data analysis and reporting.
  • Forecasting and demand planning principles.
  • 100% Bilingual (English/Spanish)

 

Education/Certifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or related field.
  • APICS/ASCM certification preferred
