JOB DESCRIPTION:
This position will perform a full range of technical work including vehicle field studies, root cause analysis, road load data collection, data analysis and vehicle test reports. This position also runs laboratory empirical investigations resolving component level root-cause analysis, writing new test procedures inter-laboratory correlation studies and other reporting associated with testing.
Essential Functions:
• Plans, conducts and coordinates a broad range of complex engineering technical assignments requiring an in-depth knowledge of foundation brake hardware and laboratory testing techniques including inertia dynamometer, roto-strokers, and linear actuators. Can complete these tasks with limited guidance from engineering resources including the inspection, assembly, and installation of test components.
• Regarded as a foundation brake hardware, vehicle chassis systems and road load data collection technical expert in the area of laboratory test methods.
• Will be a support resource to other Bendix department requiring vehicle test support.
• Will direct and coordinate laboratory activities of other test engineers or technicians on specific assignments. Schedule lab activities to ensure timely delivery of results to appropriate personnel.
• Responsible to ensure all policies and procedures for safety, security, upkeep, and disposition of the company assets are managed appropriately. This includes all company equipment assigned to the Wheel End team or owned by the company for general usage.
• Has appreciable latitude for independent action and decision.
• Position is non-supervisory.
• Define, create, and document complex tests and test set-ups. This includes specifying the necessary/proper equipment and parts needed to perform the test.
• Implement process improvements. Can resolve test issues by involving team members and getting consensus or input.
• Analyze data generated and train others in data gathering. Capable of making recommendations and conclusions to the Engineering product group.
• Capable of interfacing with outside customers as needed by planning and scheduling of necessary event, i.e. field installations.

• Effective at communicating complex testing principles with a variety of audience including customers and suppliers
• Self-starter/self-motivating with a bias for action and results driven. Detail oriented and driven to complete assigned tasks on time

• Good organizational and project management skills
Knowledge:
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills in a team environment
• DFMEA and DVP&R processes
• Able to write test procedures and test plans
• Confident with technical presentations to OEM customers
• Knowledge of ISO17025 a plus.
• Knowledge of air brake systems a plus
• Experience running brake tests on inertia dynamometer.
• Experience with SAE J2995 a plus.
Experience:
• Associate degree in Engineering Technology and 5 years’ experience , or a high school degree and nine years of related technical experience.
• Six Sigma experience is strongly preferred.
• 8D process experience and demonstrated implementation of PCA solutions will be highly regarded.
Education:
• M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering is preferred
